Crank Pulley Removal Problems
I tried taking the crank pulley off. But had a hard time taking it off. Any suggestions? I know an impact gun would help. But I have no money to go out and spend couple hundred dollars for the impact gun, compressor. Would it be easier if i take the tranny off and just use a ring gear holder to hold the flywheel?

Re: Crank Pulley Removal Problems
yeah, you have to find someway to keep the flywheel from spinning, i usually wedge a flathead in between the teeth and a tranny bolt hole or something, then you need a long breaker bar and possibly even a mini sledged to 'motivate' the breaker bar with.

Re: Crank Pulley Removal Problems
if the motor is in the car you could put it in gear and have some one hold the breaks some times this works O0

Re: Crank Pulley Removal Problems
i was reading some articles from HT that someone broke their bell housing like that using a screw driver?
|
Re: Crank Pulley Removal Problems
i take out the starter and wedge a bracket (the one on a z6 that goes from the driver mount to the front of the block).
use a breaker bar and pole. don't have to jack the car up. good luck. |
Re: Crank Pulley Removal Problems
I used a crank pulley tooll,it was pretty easy to make. Just need to find a nut big enough to fit in the crank then weld a bar to it.

Re: Crank Pulley Removal Problems
just get a 12 fooot breaker bar.... half inch drive atleast.

Re: Crank Pulley Removal Problems
Done this like 2 or 3 times on my celica (same shitty ass situation) and too many times on so many honda cv shafts (whole car moves forward while someone holds the brakes down in 5th gear with ebrake on)
1. Get someone 200+ and strap them down with one of those chain type pulley holders to hold down the pulley 2. get a regular 2 foot breaker bar (not made in taiwan hopefully) 3. if the breaker bar doesnt work then pull off the pole on your floor jack(hopefully you have a full size one) and slide it over your breaker bar. 4 If that doesnt work, rent or buy yourself a damn impact. you always wanted one didnt you? Starter trick works sometimes but you usually need a really long ass breaker bar. |
Re: Crank Pulley Removal Problems
starter trick doesn't work on hondas will tighten them. and I have had clutchs slip with the gear and friend on the break deal sucks major. what has worked best for me is to take the starter off take a pry bar with a flat angled tip and pit it on the flywheel and agains the block webbing screwdrivers bend to easy then get the car up a little bit in the air and put a two foot bar on the end of you breaker bar and grap hold othe front hood suppors and swing yourself up and down little heat will help too good luck sucks doing them try doning it at 2:30 in the morning a 20degrees outside brrrrr.

Re: Crank Pulley Removal Problems
Well, I was just about to come and post almost this exact same thing so I'll just ----- someone else's thread.
I'm using a Mac 640 ft/lb impact and getting nowhere. Anyone think that some PB Blaster would help out this situation? |
Re: Crank Pulley Removal Problems
.....hmm even a impact wont break it loose? o_O what kind of air pressure are you running?
|
Re: Crank Pulley Removal Problems
Just stop by a tire shop or whatever is near by and have them break it loose then drive home.

Re: Crank Pulley Removal Problems
hey mista bone. The tranny guru king. :) what is that thing you use to bolt up to the tranny and flywheel?? and what size bolt is that? Thanks for all your comments and suggestion. :)
|
Re: Crank Pulley Removal Problems
Are you going the right way when your loosening it?As far as i know some honda motors spin so to loosen the bolt you have to go right instead of left.
|
Re: Crank Pulley Removal Problems
what? so if i were to face toward the crank pulley. Do i go clockwise or counter clock wise?
|
Re: Crank Pulley Removal Problems
someone trying to confuse me. hehe. ??? ??? ???
|
Re: Crank Pulley Removal Problems
counterclocwise. thats to the left. I use a impact always works.

Re: Crank Pulley Removal Problems
Soak the bolt for a day or two with PB Blaster. Accept NO substitues.
Then use a single, long socket and a 3' breaker/socket bar.. No socket extensions or cheater bars. The more extensions or cheaters you use, the more everything will flex and bend. You don't want that. Get it set up all nice and tight so the breaker bar sticks out the front of your car and then kick it REALLY ------- hard. It'll take a few tries, but you will not get it off any other way manually. You need a good jolt to get it started. Trust me, this is coming from a guy who used to spend 3 days trying to get those ------- things off. No amount of leverage or long bars would get it started. I broke 3 or 4 sockets & extensions that way. |

200ft/lbs is a bid-nite :P |
Re: Crank Pulley Removal Problems
what about a long bar maybe a breaker bar just cross ways through the lugs on the hub? if its slanted to the ground and at good angle its not gonna move and you should get them off, but ---- ya try the brake thing, never done that b4.

Re: Crank Pulley Removal Problems
haha. i already taken the exhaust manifold and oil pan out already.
I wonder what kind of metal is that from. I been searching through my tool box and throughout the house. And i cant find anything close to that metal he is using to bolt the flywheel to the tranny. Hmmmm.... Any ideas? |
Re: Crank Pulley Removal Problems
LOL... I don't think you need the exact same thing.
|
Re: Crank Pulley Removal Problems
check out that hybrid honda forum, thats where that pic is from
|
Re: Crank Pulley Removal Problems
ok i use a 13 mm wrech and just bolt it to the flywheel and the tranny. And i use a breaker bar. Finally came loose. ------- ----.

Re: Crank Pulley Removal Problems
