So my engine is burning oil if I run it at high rpm so I did a compression test and one cylinder is 25psi higher than the rest. I was thinking the casue may be a bad oil control ring that is causing oil to wet the cylinder and increase the compression number.

does this sound possible? has anyone heard of results like this?

I'll probably try some seafoam or ATF in that cylinder overnight and change the oil and test it again.

i'm guessing bad valve seals.

 

bad valve seals usually smoke at start up; I'll only get a little smoke at high rpm.

 

is it a 4cyl 6cyl or an 8cyl
my guess is that it is a 4cyl... just cause one is higher like that is fine... my comp runs 255,255,275,255. and i have no probs

 

try using another compression gauge, usually they all give different readings even the same brands.

 

did you test that same cyl twice to make sure you didnt crank the engine over too many times??
