Chevy small block question

Default Chevy small block question

allright, im selling my hondas turbo ----, and my nova(unless i can find somewhere for it)

part of this money is going to getting my chevelle running, which is long over do.

i ran out of money after the top-end was rebuilt and have lost my job.

im going to pull the bottom end and rebuild it.

ive got a couple questions.

A) should i rebuild it too just stock specs?

or while im inside should i change somethings. the exterior of the motor has to stay stock so its not going to be anything crazy.

its a 283 with a 2bbl carb.

im thinking of boring it out as much as is safely possible and some new pistons, dropping a mild cam in, throwing on some tubular headers(the only noticable mod) and upping the fueling ability.

B) i just dont know if i should even waste my time. its going to have to stay a 2bbl manifold, probally will do some port matching but thats it, and i think that the manifold and carb setup is going to severly limit anything i do.

C) is it possible to retrofit a 2bbl TBI throttle body from a early 90s 350 onto my stock intake manifold?
what kind of wiring would i need to make this happen? can i just jiggaboo rig some ---- so that its standalone or will i need a new wiring harness and ecu?

D) also what size exhaust would be good? im thinking something small to help with the lack of bottom end.
dual 2.25in or dual 2.5in with some magnaflow or flowmaster muffs.

just looking for some ideas from any v8 guys out there.

the car is basically all restored, i just painted it a bright *** red(2004 corvette red) and it has shiny wheels.

interior is restored to stock, all new except the guage cluster.

ok did some more research going to post what i found here and keep the OP the same.

looks like holley makes an adapter to put TBI throttle body on my intake.

so i think i can just pull a VSS, throttle body, dizzy, ecu and wiring harness(ecu side) and MAP from an older junkyard pickup.

then its some extra wiring. im thinking ---- the code display and all the other ecu ----. i will just run the fueling, the TB is cable operated anyways. so the ecu just reads the timing, speed, and manifold pressure and adds fuel accordingly.

anyone see fault in that thinking?

so stock stroke, big over bore(.060 or bigger, gotta see), higher comp, TBI, cam, headers and keep it looking right from the outside.

its going on a powerglide. word.

my power glide is toast.
i thought about going efi with my chevy II, but the real question is... what are your power goals and/or 1/4 mile times. stuff like that determines what you need.
my friend is not gonna be able to pick up that nova from you. he doesn't have a place to keep it.

its a cruiser, not concerned with absolute power, looking more for a consistently larger powerband.

well its a like anything else, but lots depends on your cam and converter. What cam are you running? Converter?

you've got the right idea, for a cruiser and especially any car with a glide, stroke would be better than bore, but either way you do it more cubes are better.

TBI sounds like more work for what its worth. a good holley carb with the proper jetting and pump shot, probably a 1-5/8 header and stock stroke 60over (or whatever pistons that you find that will fit your compression needs for cheap) with some hyd cam in the 230* @50 and over .500 lift and 3500stall would be yummy and feel fun on the cruise .

66 chevelles are sex on wheels thought about the multi port from an eighties camaro? turbo could be had in the cars future that way

---- all that noise and just buy a reman 350 even with a cam and all that ---- you wont see 300hp i saw a build on tv not long ago and the did a nice build for a street rod and the 283 made shitty power in my op..just get a 350 hell i saw a 383 stroker go for 1400 on cl..

283's are a ------- solid motor.




now there's a 283 for ya

didnt get too carried away with the brap braps, 1.5gal tank and alky don't last too long when you gotta drive it down the road to the trailer and back

I got a HEI dizzy ready for ya. and some awesome eldelbrock valve covers. and yes I am purposefully ignoring the part where your out of money cause i am too lol.

If the 283 runs and drives leave it alone you'll just be throwing money at something you wont be happy with , best bang for buck would be a 350, a 305 out of a 80's camaro would be ok too.. throttle body and overdrive would be nice for croozing
