cheap things for going to track
 

I have a 92 civic sedan, currently with a turbo d15... but i'm upgrading to a d16a6 or y7 and upping the boost for the summer to take it to the track

what are some cheap things i can do to improve my 1/4 mile times. The car will probably never be daily driven or even street driven again seeing as teh quarter panels are ------ rusted out pieces of ---- and the rest of the car is probably well on its way to being the same

So far, I'm gonna make rear suspension limiters and traction bars.... other than running slicks what else can I do to help the car out


I'm looking for more chassis related stuff than anything, not just "up the boost"

whats already done to it? do you have decent suspension? My favorite cheap mod is the ole window weld filling of all the mounts. Or just buy the energy suspension inserts and use window weld to fill the main mounts

I have window weld mounts now, except there starting to look shitty so i'm gonna put new mounts window welded into the car with the new motor

its on stock suspension now, what can be done cheaply to upgrade that, i dont wanna spend tons of money on it because it will honetsly never legally see the street again, its gonna get trailered the 2.5 hours to the drag strip

Gut everything out of it, Fill the entire block with filler + tt rods and vitaras it shouldn't overheat with just track use, Go open downpipe, get as much airflow to the fmic as possible, spray ic with c02 between rounds. Tons of other things that are just good prep for any car at the strip.

i never had much luck with the wondow weld. i have always used the liquid polyuerethane from grainger industrial supply, 94A FTW. price isn't too bad either, after discount its like $30 but well worth it considering how fast it sets and how solid it makes it.

Buy a sheet of lexan and replace rear side windows.

Well, either crazy high spring rates on the rear springs (like 80 bucks a spring, then pay for shipping), air bags for your current rear springs (not a clue how much they cost), remove rear shocks and replace with a solid rod (cheap, hmt style, but not sure how safe this would be), or a preloaded wheelie bar (if your a decent fabrictor, and if your track allows it) would all be decent ways of preventing weight transfer to the rear of the vehicle. I've also thought about using spare tires for rear wheels if I were ever to drag. Again, not sure how safe this woudl be, but you could get some small ass 13" and the smallest, lightest tires you can find. How much does your car weigh? Find a swap for the brakes that is the lightest ones you can find. Like its been said, gut EVERYTHING you don't need. There is always more weight reduction with money. CF is pricey, maybe find someone selling fiberglass, or be hmt and make your own fiberglass hood. I've thought about using a stock hood, cutting out the middle, then fillin that in with fiberglass. Couldn't be that hard, then you would have the metal 'frame' to bolt to everything. Which gearset is in your transmission. It would be silly to have anything but the Si/Ex P20-B000 final drive at a minimum.

Make suspension limiters... far easier and less destructive than half the ---- you mentioned. You don't need to remove any springs or shocks.
