Car won't rev past 3K RPM's (Problem solved!!)
Hey guys, I have a buddy that recently bought a 91 hatch for cheap, it needed a head gasket and a couple of other minor things. He changed the headgasket and what-not and had it running fine. Then out of the blue, it just started acting weird and would not start. He messed around with it for a couple of days before he realized that the screw had fallen out of the rotor and it was spinning freely on the shaft of the dizzy. He fixed that and now the car will not rev past 3K rpm's. I am thinking that the screw may have done some damage to the inside of the dizzy, but since there is a bolt stuck he could not get it off for me to look. Another thing to note...the car starts really hard some times and almost seems to backfire through the intake occasionally when trying to start it and other times it starts just fine. When it is running, it runs pretty smoothly except for the rev's problem. He said his timing is on, but he is still getting a TDC code (code
. So, what do you think, something in the dizzy got fubared? Oh yea, it case it helps, this is a DPFI car.

Im curious, this is just a guess though. Did the screw need to be tightened to a certain ft/lb?? If so, that may be causing some problems. Im not sure but it seems like if it is too tight or too lose, it could be causing some problems with spark when starting and when revving past 3k.

(psst, PERFECT time to do a MPFI swap.

Ok, he finally brought the car over to the shop, a little heat and some vice grips and I was able to get the bolt off
Looking inside the distributor, I found the rotor screw that was previously MIA. He wanted to try it out with the screw out of the picture, still no worky
So we start inspecting a little further and found a part of the distributor inside was bent, don't know all the names of the internal pieces
but anyway, I had an old DPFI dist laying around and we put his coil in it, bolt it on the car and she fired right up. So, after him driving the car around for a week in "limp mode" I finally got to tell him....I TOLD YA SO, LOL. I got a full center console out of a 94 Integra in trade for the old DPFI dizzy, I think it is gonna make a real nice addition to my 91 hatch, armrests are nice
