well.. not really starting. Its keeping it going..

So.. here's the story.. Car running great.. come to a train crossing and the arms come down so I stop and shut off the car thinking this slow *** train is going to take forever. 4 train cars later and i see the end. So I prime the pump. CEL goes off and I crank her over. Starts instantly revs up like normal right after a start and then falls. to 0! car is now off. Prime again, starts perfect, goes up and falls, 0. WTF!

Now I am getting angry.. car starts, as it revs up on the start i hit the gas and it goes "vrooom" then sounds like puffing and dies again. Try again, same thing. Try once more and it revs up on the start and falls to a 900rpm idle smooth.. WTF is going on My guess is main relay.

if you are talking about your 88 rex it sounds like the main relay
