okay so i've got a 90 civic std. it has the stock motor which i think is a d15b2 or something. the previous owner did the mpfi conversion. and lately its not been wanting to start. well sometimes it does and sometimes it doesnt. so today when i was going to go to work the bitch didnt want to start. so i checked the spark plugs and dizzy cap and rotor which all where pretty much messed up since i havent done a tune up since i got the car. haha which was last september. so i start to pull out the plug wires and what do i see come out with em. ------- OIL!!! theres oil like up to the top of the spark plug. so i buy a new valve cover gasket, spark plug seals, and grommets, new plugs a new cap and rotor. and still same problem. doesnt want to start. so i just sat there and pondered for a while and decided to take out the gas cap for some reason to relieve the pressure and what do you know it starts. so me thinking it was the fuel filter cloggin up go and change it. and still same problem. now where im getting at here is could my gas cap be fucked up and not holding pressure or not doing what its supposed to. yeah long story for something so small but i had to go into detail i know most arent going to read the whole thing but here are some cliff notes

cliff notes: car doesnt start in the morning, check plugs, dizzy cap and rotor. find oil in the spark plug holes, change everything i just checked including fuel filter car still doesnt want to start unless i take out gas cap. question: will a fucked up gas cap cause the car not to start?

check the fuel return line. also some cars have a fuel breather line check that to if u got one.

***** weird...when i open the gas cap to relieve the pressure you can hear the gas going back into the tank. its weird. kinda like gas is coming up the tube and then when i relieve the pressure it goes back in

Well if theres little pressure, theres a chance that it wont start my friend. however the car should start with the gas cap off. Do you know if your headgasket is bad? Does it run fine? im thinking it could also be your return line.

i can confirm this, 100%. I filled up once and forgot the gas cap. Car ran fine. but later that day I found this.

headgasket is fine. car has never overheated or showed signs of it. car runs great when it starts hahaha... i dont know its weird. i take off gas cap start it and put the cap back on everything's okay...what can my return line be doing? heh could it be clogged??

weird..today it starts fine. well i guess maybe i've good to the car its being good back to me. hahaha "treat your car how you want it to treat you" is what my buddy used to tell me. well i treated this car like ---- and look what it did to me. :P
