Default cant pass smog

like the topic says, im having trouble passing smog. at idle(775rpms) im about double(382) the limit on HC(hydrocarbons?). at 2500 rpms im more than three times over the limit(702) on HC. the limit for HC at either rpm is 220. any tricks or ideas to help pass? i did good on the other ---- just not the "HC ppm"

im not currently turbo'd. however, i have 450cc dsm's with my fuel leaned out -47% on a vafc. yeah...i know...put your stock injectors back on right? well i would but they leak like a **** from the middle and leave a nice puddle of fuel on my intake manifold(fire hazard = not good). thats why i put on the 450's. also, i have intake and exhaust if that makes any difference. however, i still kept my stock cat.

you need teh stock injectors.. they for for like $20 if that normally. i had that problem once but it was the O2 sensor going bad. your basically running too rich.

hmmmm... aren't stock injectors 240cc? at -47% thats 238.5cc which is actually 1.5cc leaner than stock . are you sure it would help me to go buy stock crx injectors? by the way thanks for the help.

i would go stock. Having the 450's in there might be ------- up. just be save do the 450's and replace the o2 and you should pass. also drive the car around for a good hour before the test so it get that cat nice and hot.

HC = Unburnt gas = rich, lean it out to -48 -50 maybe?

The 450cc open and close differently then the stockers, its called latency and they might not attomize the fuel as well at that low of a fuel rate for them. At idle, the VAFC dosent do anything since its closed loop anyway. Your problem is either the physical size of the injector cant atomize that well at that fuel rate, your tune state, or your O2.

I leaned my AFC 2 years ago to -7% across the board and passed with flying colors.The guy couldnt believe how clean the car ran.Im with onyx.Put the stock injectors in and lean it out across the board.I guarantee it will work .

here is an update just because i thought some of you guys might find this information useful if you have to smog your car later...

yeah, there is no ------- way you could pass smog in this state(nevada) with dsm's. i didn't change my o2 sensor, all i did was put some stock injectors on that my homeboy let me borrow, and passed. the difference is ------- rediculous. with the afc leaning out the 450's -47% thats 238.5cc's. i put on the stock 240cc crx injectors back on, and left the correction at 0%...figured if i fail then i will lean it out since you are allowed two tries per test in nevada before they fail you. basically the cc's are the same, but the results are ------- crazy.


HC ppm

------450cc injectors(leaned out to 238.5cc)-----

2500 rpms limit=220 reading=702 FAIL
775 rpms limit=220 reading=382 FAIL

------240cc injectors-----

2500 rpms limit=220 reading=18 PASS
775 rpms limit=220 reading=60 PASS


...thats a big ------- difference, even though the injectors flowed relatively the same amount of fuel. all the other ---- they tested me on(CO%, O2%, etc) also dropped by like 90%. so yeah, 88b16civic was right - they open and close way differently than stockers even at the same fuel rate.


by the way, smog in nevada is every ------- year ! thats gonna suck when i finish my turbo ---- having to take it off every time i need to smog .

I passed the ontario smog with a turbo B16. The smog test is comperable to your in cali. We only have to do it every two years. Go get your car tuned with the turbo on it. If your A/F ratio is correct then you should be in legal range.
