i hope you're talking about a b18c, because a b18a/b is not "faster" than a b16, bottom line, the b18a/b may be able to handle a little more boost safely due to the lower c/r, but if you boosted the same amount on a b16 as a b18, the b16 would make more power, just like it makes 20 more h.p. in stock form compared to the stock b18b and 30 more than the b18a, the only thing the b18a/b has that the b16 doesn't is a little more torque, but that only allows it to be quicker about half way through first gear, then it's the b16 all the way. i've owned all three engines, so this isn't an opinion, these are facts.

b18 gets spanked by a b16a

If you're talking n/a, b16 is the better choice.

Here's a novel idea: B18 block, B16 head.

Any thoughts?

How about B20/B16 head. Hmmmm? That sounds fun. I don't know what to compare that to. But if you do that with a turbo you should have it sleeved. Or just start off with a b18 and sleeve it for cheapness. That would be nice. That will be my next engine after I turbo this z6 and blow it up. I hope I don't. It's my only car.

just get whatever B-series engine swap that you can for a cheap to good price. You'll be happy with it if the engine is still in good condition. At the end, it just depends on what you do and what you like.

Like they said already...

B18 will have more torque
and the B16a vs the B18a, B16a will have more hp and the B18a will have more torque. If you want the best of both worlds, b18c

I'm sure you'll be happy with whatever B-series...
