cam caps on B-series heads....they interchangable?
some guy is tring to sell me a head, but it doesnt have any cam caps, or rockers.... i know the rockers are fine from another head, but im under the impression that the cap caps are machined with the head. is that true???

last I heard, cam caps are like main caps and are machines to the head. maybe you can get the head lined with another set of cam caps liek you can with main caps.

i vote no, cause if you can get them align bored ($) then you need cam bearings, because the cams will be smaller than the bore ($) and you would probably have been better off just getting a head someone hadnt fucked up.

plastigauge them to see if they are within spec, but they are made per head. I got away with swapping on a 7M GTE, check the clearance, if it's high, do some filling.

Properly done, align bored will be the FACTORY size, not bigger.......... |

I cant see it being a problem, since cams are interchangeable no problems, and there is no cam journal to cam cap clearences, I'd say its fine.
I would try to stick with the same series head though. |

Properly done, align bored will be the FACTORY size, not bigger.......... take 2 35mm half cicles, and put them together crooked, the only way to get another perfect circle is to make it larger than 35mm. |

milled .002" off the cap and head, bore out to 35mm, typical align bore and hone.........
Just like you do on V8 bottom ends, esp. when adding 4 bolt splayed main caps on the center 3 mains.......... If your really picky, you'll do the bore/hone with the heads or torque plates installed to simulate the stress the block sees..... |

I have swaped them a few times, and about 80% of the time, they will not work.. but 2 times i have had them actually line up, i say good luck!

yes of course it is, i usually only deal with local people on trasactions of used parts, i want to see them first to garrentee the condition of them... and i cant even remember who the hell i was gonna buy that head from, probly someone off of NWSR....

B16 and B18(VTEC models) are interchangable. but not non-vtec->Vtec, Vtec->non-vtec

NOT interchangeable unless speced..........
please folk.........each head is different, yes you can get lucky with normal tolerances...........but the one time it is tight, wipes away the oil, locks a cam and 3-4 valve heads take out 4 pistons.......... was it really ------- worth it????????????? |

I personally would not do it. Cam caps are head specific, just like the crank main caps are.
