First off take the lines off the master cylinder.go underneath your dash where your brake pedel is connected. you will see a fat pin like device,with a keeper wire through it.take the wire out and then the pin..with that been taken off pull the master cylinder off.there is 4 12mm bolts that are hard to get to..you will see that the pedal assembly is bolted to the brake booster..unbolt the assembly and then pull your brake booster off..nine times out of ten your brake booster is going out..does not matter what they say make sure you get the same make and model brake booster as your car. the si,dx,lx are the same, 88-91.if you like me to ship you one cheap. lmk ps you don't have to adjust ----..don't let them take your money do it yourself..if you need help i'll give you my number..

At the auto parts store they told me that the one they sold was the same thing as the one in my car but I dont think that its the same brand, is that brake booster ok to put in my car. Iam getting real close to just buying the one they have at the store and just putting it in without paying any attention to the last two steps in my civic manual that Iam working off of. Have you ever had to adjust a booster your self. Sorry for all the questions, but I dont want to put the booster back in an find out its not correct and have to pull the dashbord again or at worst driving and having it give out. :-\ ???

Just finished putting my brake booster and master cylinder and bled the master, but not the whole system yet. Few problems, first brake lights stay on, car slows down at notice able speed and the brakes brake had when steping on pedal. Someone please help!!!!! :'( :'( :'(

to fully get your brakes blead put your car up front and back in the air first take you rims off.now find the the bleeding screw to each one of your brakes.loosen them up a lil to let it dribble out all 4 of them..make sure that you keep fluid in it at all times..its called gravity bleeding..let it dribble out all 4 bleeding screws for 20mins making sure the fluid stays full. now your brake pedal has a type of push sensor on at the top of the pedal..it might be damanged..mess with it a little bit..see what happens..sometimes theres a lil plastic bracket that breaks..when that happens the pin to the sensor makes the lights stay on..super glue a dime or penny in between the sensor and where the plastic thing goes..

Iam going to adjust the peice that goes around the brake pedal and has a pin through it and see about turning it once to see if the brake pedal rod will sit back on the sensor or switch that turns the brake lights on. I was noticing when i drove it and let it coast that the car was slowing down too much. After I do that ill get back to you guys and tell you what happend.

I worked on my car the other day and i finally got the brake pedal to sit the way it was supposed to, I havent finished putting the booster in yet. ill get back when i do.

But any ways i finally finished the whole job. So for any one with any questions about the master cylinder and the brake booster on a 90 honda civic hatch I have a little info on the process.
1. the booster from the auto store did need to be adjusted a little. To adjust the rod you need to turn the two bolts on the booster either clockwise or the oppisite way to draw in more of the rod or less. At first i just threw the booster in and made the brake pedal alin with the rod and that made the pedal stay down which was aplying the bakes at all times.
2. the dashbord dosent have to come off . I did it trial and error style so i learned that the four bolts that hold the booster can be reached with only having to remove the fuse bord under the dash and unpluging a few clips.
3. The master cylinder needs to be bench bled before puttin it back in. As well as the entire brake system.

the car runs fine as of right now... I followed the installing directions and did every thing it said.Thanks for all the replys!!! :)
