the wastegate controls the amount of boost your engine sees by by-passing some exhaust away from the turbine. like noted before, if your wastegate is set to 8psi then once you get 8psi in your charge pipes the wastegate will open letting some of the exhaust bypass the turbine keeping your boost pressure at 8psi. the BOV is there when you let off the throttle it will open so the charge doesnt bounce back and abruptly stop the compressor wheel. which for a while wont hurt anything but in the long run it is bad for your turbo

okay. i took a look around here and i believe the turbo i'm getting has the wastegate with it. i'm deciding between a turbo out of a volvo (which i've been told is a t3) or a turbo out of a mitsu starion....anyone have an idea of what turbo that is? it doesn't look as big as the t3 but i can't quite tell...

i have never had anything bigger than a d16z6 and i have never had a starion or volvo turbo so take this with a grain of salt, but i am pretty sure the starion turbo will be too small for a b18. it will boost and run good but you will want bigger after a short time. probobly the same thing with the volvo turbo, but being a bigger turbo it will be better

yeah. i hear ya, one of my buddies is gunna hook me up with his rebuilt garret t3/t4 for $150 which is less than i'd pay to get the other turbo and have it rebuilt by some shop. any other suggestions on things to do? i'm going to custom make my exhaust manifold with 2" pipe, or should i go smaller/bigger? Thanks for all the help so far, i'm hopin to get in the 250-300hp range with my setup when it's all done...then it'll be time for a bigger turbo
