Block damage..
My rings blew out. I've pulled the block, I'm dropping the pistons to have a look.
My buddy says that when they break, they can scratch the walls. If the walls are not "visably" damanged, do you think still need my block honed and such before I slap new rings in it?

Dropping the pistons? you mean popping the pistons..
Sometimes you can get lucky, I have seen ring lands break on every piston and not even scratch the cylinder walls. Once you remove the head, you will be able to see how much damage is done. I always like to throw in a quick hone job when putting new rings in, just so they seal correctly.

Re:Block damage..
There doesn't seem to be any damage in the cylinders. I mean like anything noticeable.
I'll be pulling the pistons and rings today and I'll post pictures.
Check out my head.. Broke lands on 1, 2, and 3 psitons it seems. Oil everywhere.

Re:Block damage..
Ok, need help...
I can't seem to get the great that the timing belt goes around off. (Yes, this is the first time I have taken apart a block.)
Seems to stop pulling off almost half way. Here is a pic, note, it's upside down at the moment.
Any ideas on removal? Is there some little trick? I can't find anything in my Haynes manual.

Re:Block damage..
OK, Jeff, here's a another one..
Just got all my pistons out, checked the rings and landings.. all seem fine.
I'm at a loss. Headgasket was fine.
Any ideas on why I wouldn't be able to go over 45mph, and a HUGE cloud of white smoke would lay across 3 lanes of highway?

Re:Block damage..
first off. if you had white smoke why did you pull the pistons out? that is for sure coolant burning.
get the head resurfaced take a razor and get all the gasket off the block and put a new head gasket on. thats probably the problem.
have them check to make sure your head isnt warped also.
