Default Auto b16a questions

So one of my friends calls me up complaining about his new motor. He just ordered up a b16a longblock that cost him about $750 shipped to his work. Now he's pretty much running the same setup as I am...b16a, S1 trans, obd0 pr3, I/H/E in a 91 hatch( mines 89), but he says it doesn't pull anywhere near as hard as mine does. This got me a little curious, so I stopped by to see this. And he was right. No codes are popping, but man is that thing slow :P It had a torque converter still attached to it when it arrived, so obviously it was from an auto car...my guess maybe an auto X-si. I've read a few places that the auto b16's only have one set of dual springs instead of both intakes and exhausts, and that the auto cams used are less aggressive than the manual trans version? Does anyone know if this is right? I've never really dealt with an "auto" b16 before, so this one's kinda new I tried searching HT and a few places that might give me some cam specs and stuff, but I can't find anything out. He's kinda bummed about it, especially when I told him to try not to spin it over 7500 rpm until I can find something out
