anyone ever rebulit an S80?
I'm thinking about rebuilding my S80 GSR hydro transmission, due to the fact that I have no reverse. does anyone have any instrucional documentation on it? like tear down/rebuild info, torque specs, parts that HAVE to be replaced, etc... this info would be greatly appreciated!
Also, will gears from an LS (cable trans) fit into my S80? And whats the best combo of gears for an LS turbo? I heard something like 3rd and 5th are what to use from an LS trans w/gsr 1,2,4 gears. thanx. |

Re: anyone ever rebulit an S80?
The bolt that you seem to be missing ties the reverse idler shaft to the case and keeps it from flopping around when its under load.

Im guessing thats why your reverse doesnt work ;)

Re: anyone ever rebulit an S80?
yea thats my problem.
how can i fix this? |
Re: anyone ever rebulit an S80?
If you cant see the threads that should be visible through that hole then you are going to have to split the case. Hopefully you haven't destroyed the case and or the shaft and idler gear.

Re: anyone ever rebulit an S80?
okay to clarify, that pic isnt my tranny, but i used it as reference.
I took the bolt out and put it back before, and didnt have reverse when i got the car running. i pulled the bolt after doing this research, and I can see threads. the bolt wouldnt stay in without those threads, right?? Anyway i threaded the bolt back in and I still dont have reverse... Worse case scenario, Can anyone help me get a write up on how to fix this? I been searching and cant find much on it. |
Re: anyone ever rebulit an S80?
If you can see the threads and the bolt tightens down then the reverse idler shaft is in the correct position. If you have all the other gears then it is probably something wrong with the shift mechanism inside. Have you looked at the manual and studied how the trans comes apart? I would be more than happy to do a writeup if I had another trans lying around. :(
