on my car the vin number is from an 89 si but what i found out one day is that my headlights are from a 90-91. I then noticed this car was probably stolen when i bought it because the vin number inside the engine compartment is sanded down and i checked the other vins and they look tampered with.
So now i need to know what are the differences i can check for to find out if its a 90-91 vs 88-89.

btw my car is a civic hatch

 

you have bought a car that was either stolen or someting happened to the car they dident waht you to know about. at this point i would have the car checked out. you get an imspection and your screwed.

 

the corners will have screws in them for 80s. taillights will have 1/2" border around them for 90s. but those are easily changed out. I don't know of anything else, check out www.quickhonda.net

 

ummm... this might not be a very good indication but any clues could help right? 88 have a "ball" style rear strut/LCA vs 89+ have a "fork" type strut/LCA. i know b/c i'm stuck trying to sell some 88 civic Tokicos.

 

90-91 have the seatbelts in the door and the plastic thats over the gauge cluster is rounded

 

well all these signs seem to point to the fact that it is 90-91.
