Default 8-16 valve head swap *pics*

So I got rid of the old sluggish 8 valve head and upgraded to a 16 valver. Very nice imrpovement. 70hp with the 8 valve to ~100 with the 16 valve.

Old 8 valve hotness with a 16 valve, valve cover. Notice my custom cold air intake. :P

Everything unbolted ready to be ripped off:

CX head on top, DX on bottom:

DX intake on left, CX on right:

DX on right, CX on left:

All copper sprayed up with a fresh $20 head gasket.

The new 16 valve hotness with another custom cold air intake.

I was worried about the head bolts and the timing belt, but the CX parts worked fine with the DX head. Everything worked out good. I had a loose ground on the thermostat so I spent about 30 minutes ripping my hair out trying to figure out why my fuel pump stopped working all of the sudden. I wasn't paying attention when I was plugging the sensors back in so I mis-matched a few, but that was an easy fix.

Very big improvement over the 8 valve head. I'm impressed. It's still slow as ---- with the CX tranny though. 40+mph in first gear and like 70mph in second.

I didn't take that ground off. I have this stupid god damn bad luck thing to where when I work on a car and change something, something completely unrelated goes wrong. I didn't even touch that ground wire. All of the sudden it starts acting up when I fired the car up with the new head. I ------- hate that ----.

Amother time I did a head swap my o2 sensor went bad at the same exact time. That had me running in circles looking for problems.

Yeah, it actually has 2 cats. I'm not going to ---- with that ---- until I get a new turbo. I'm thinking about buying an adapter plate for this CX mani and just using that. I'm not sure how much money I want to put into this motor. I'm thinking B series......

Yes they do. they insulate very well to keep out the heat. Another thing is I would have thought that the valve reliefs would have been different for the 8 valve compared to the 16. How does that work? Or is if different on the obd1 cars?

The D15B8 has 4 valve reliefs. They knew what us Honda guys were goijng to do with that motor when we realized it only had 70hp.

sorry to bring this thread back, but did you chip the ecu also, or use a different ecu...? I would think using the stock cx ecu with that setup would still hurt you, as far as timing/fuel goes...
