Default 4th gen hatchback budget motor options

Ok, I found a EF hatchback around here for $400 and I was planning on driving that around while I build up a ghetto HMT setup on a motor that I will swap in. The only problem with that is... I dont know what motor I want. Trust me I have done alot of searching and reading but the search option on here and d16turbo does nothing to help me as far as the EF part goes. I dont know which cheap little 1.5 or 1.6 motor would be best to find and boost. Im not sure which motor the hatch comes with that im buying but I know I dont want it because he had a b16 in there and just put the stock motor back in so I could get it for cheap. Plus it was ran to hell im sure.

I wanna go with my own turbo setup and not some greddy mess or anything like that. So ill be representin HMT. I want a pretty simple swap as far as the motor goes, and if I can I would like to get a fresh motor just to help with peice of mind (hate driving something I dont know anything about its condition). Anyway maybe you guys can help me gain as much knowledge as I can to better my project. This is strickly budget to so im gonna go junkyard shopping for the turbo setup im sure. I dont wanna spend anything over 500-800 on the whole turbo setup. Im thinkin maybe some kinda junkyard turbo on a HF manifold or a turbo from the classified section. I want a fast turbo setup too so that means no 14 sec bs. I want like a high or low 12 sec car that I can zip around town in, and be able to handle like a dream around corners and pull outta corners with me planted in the seat.

Im a little tired right no so sorry if this was maybe stretched out or if it sounds retarded.

My aim s/n is Monkeyz400 if anyone wants to talk to help me out. I will include alot of pictures and try to help as many people as I can once this is all said and done.

I hope to stay on this forum for a while and become part of it

Later

I don't know what motor is in the car now, but I'd go with either a d16a6 or d16z6 with either a t3 .48/.60 or some t3/t4 hybrid if you can find one cheap enough. Also, I'm thinking you are gonna need slicks for you 12 sec. 1/4 mile times. Check out the stickies if you haven't yet. Good luck on your project.

yeah ive checked the stickys. I got the basics of how a turbo works and I think I know what I need but just not the specifics as in the models and every part needed.

Can someone gimme some links to different turbo specs and other turbo ef hatchbacks (d16 and other budget motors).

so you have 500-800 bucks for a new motor motor, turbo kit, and suspension.
and you want low 12s.

5-8 for just the whole turbo setup after being tuned maybe. Plus I plan on doing the work myself so no labor cost. I have all the room and all the tools. I might have someone who could help me a little but im not sure. I live in Maryland on the eastern shore if anyone could help me. That would be beast, projects are always fun.

Also the suspension is gonna be far down the road im sure (college is approaching).

The motor I expect to pretty much find for next to nothing or maybe a few hundred bucks. Depending on the amount of pain it will require to fix.

You guys are free to pm me or talk to me on aim. I type fast and I can learn fast as hell so its not like youll be talking to a brick wall. Im open minded and creative and have a great desire to do this.

This is kinda "thinking outside the box" for me anyway because I would have never even sat in a honda without laughing at the people until I read a shitload and ended up stooping as low as the big "Import" word. Now here I am with hondas because I realize that the reason they have small motors is because they are so damn lightweight there isnt a point in having a "8 cylinder". So all the rednecks around me could never brainwash me again, im here to stay with imports. Now lets do this damn thing YO!

I'm assuming for the price it'll be either a dx or std. Just boost the b2 thats in it and do a mpfi conversion and put a a6 head on it. Then just boost it with a 42/48.

What power could I put out with the stock motor with a turbo setup (low boost) so it will last till I upgrade. Also when I upgrade I want a turbo that will match what I need for my next motor. Should I go d16 turbo or dohc zc or is there another cheap motor I could use? I mainly just want a hard acceleration and good handling.

Like I said before my aim s/n is Monkeyz400 and I can talk all day long. I live in maryalnd also if anyone would like to be part of the ghetto go-kart. The car is in mint condition so its actually not so ghetto.

Well I do read and basiclly all the net has is a bunch of kids that do ---- either wrong or they just ask questions. That is why I came to hmt because I saw that it was a more DIY site but I figured I need a little help to start me off so I dont blow my ---- up. Plus I know plenty of honda guys plus the guy im getting it from and the people I found out about the car from all pretty much build hondas and have their own honda shop business.

I just wanted to get a budget car pushing like 13s or w/e on street tires just to surpise some peeps.

I do know a decent amount from the last 2-3 days I have been reading butI still need help.

I can settle for a d16z6.... but a d15b2 with like a pos turbo setup tuned at about 4-5psi sounds great to ride around with to start. So can I at least get help and not critizism. Im not the usual 16 year old dumbass I must say. Im deff ready to do some work I just wanna at least do ---- halfway right where I dont have to depend on the people I know to teach me when I can learn from a better crowd of people (you guys).

Thanks alot and gimme some ideas for the budget d15b2 turbo setup. Then I can read while I ride with that and I can do a more performance based setup.

go to project page. read. a healthy d16z6 is gonna cost 400 alone and old beat up d15's really dont like boost. Plus you have to convert to mpfi dpfi aka the toilet bowl is just that ----. 2 injectors and a **** size throttle body add to why its the greatest thing since sliced bread.
