3M window weld..**done and tested**

i went to Schucks to get some of the 3M window weld to fill my mounts because i have some serious wheel hop but was wondering is this the right stuff?

Care to explain its use?

You just injecto it into your motor mount bushing somewhere and it helps wheel hop?

Re: 3M window weld..is this the right shit?

That's the right stuff, but by the color of the tip it looks like you got the clear stuff. I guess it doesn't matter since this is homemadeturbo though. ;)
I used this stuff from home depot in a black and yellow tube. It's roofing caulk and it's called polysumthin. It smells completely like chocolate. It's crazy, but I ate before I did the motor mounts so I was cool.

that sucks. but i just filled my top tranny mount while it was on the tranny out of the car btu i didn't remember anybody saying anything about it being runny. but it was so i just tipped the tranny on one side and taped off the other side and filled away. i guess i'll see how it worked.

Usually the tip of a caulk tube indicates the color. Tricky 3M bastards.

this the stuff you were talking about? found it at the HMD (home depot) and it is only $2.88 a tube :o. there is white, black, bronse and clear.

How does the Home Depot stuff work ? Same as the 3m stuff?

don't know yet haven't tried it but i'm about to go do my tourqe mounts right now so i'
ll let you know how it is.

Re: 3M window weld..is this the right shit?

just got done trying out the HMD stuff and i liked it alot better, just seemed easier to work with. the 3M stuff was kinda runny....just my opinion ;D

Re: 3M window weld..is this the right shit?

Easier to work with, but does it work the same? I just finished, and I mean just finished like 2 hours ago, filling up mine with the 3m stuff, I went thru a full tube $12.88 at advanced auto, on my car, and will be doing a friends car next. I rather pay the $3.00 for the next one if it is the same quality stuff.

J-MAN 03-13-2005 11:57 PM

Re: 3M window weld..is this the right shit?

don't know never used the 3M on a car since the tranny mount i used it on is still out of the car. and haven't put the tourque mounts in yet. still waiting on them to dry.
heres another question, how do i get the driver side mount back in? it was a bitch to get out.

Re: 3M window weld..is this the right shit?

I did mine on friday night. I used the Home Depot stuff. It was really tough to get outta the tube, but it seems good. I have a week for it to harden, and it is going in an empty engine bay. So I am not worried about the speed at which it hardens.

I know stealth had the HD stuff in his car and it was better than stock. Never had any experience with the window weld mounts. I am sure both are comprable.

a week to dry?

Cray91 03-14-2005 02:51 AM

Re: 3M window weld..is this the right shit?

I am not saying that it will take a week. I was just saying that I am not worried about the dry time because I have a week.

I did mine late friday and they are firmed up pretty good already.

I would suggest getting another set of mounts to make it a little easier.

MikeJ-2009 03-14-2005 03:15 AM

Re: 3M window weld..is this the right shit?

Yeah, the PL stuff pictured is what I used on my crx. I don't have anything to compare it to, but I had a y8 at 15psi on advan road race tires and cut a 1.94 60ft.

The car didn't have the annoying rattles and ---- that everyone said thiers did, so I'm not sure if this stuff is less hard than the 3M or what. It was sure better than stock, though.

Jmunk 03-14-2005 04:37 PM

Re: 3M window weld..is this the right shit?

How long does that stuff take to setup and be ready for use ? 24 hours ?

J-MAN 03-14-2005 07:15 PM

Re: 3M window weld..is this the right shit?

yeah i would say 24 hours is good since that is what the tube says but you might want to let it set for a little longer just to be sure. my mounts are pretty stiff compared to how floppy they were when i took them off but i can still feel some soft spots.

another question, is there a trick to get the driver side tourque mount back on? i had to twist it to get it off and i don't think that will work this time.

J-MAN 03-15-2005 08:43 PM

Re: 3M window weld..is this the right shit?

okay just got back from my first test drive. those mounts are so stiff it's crazy. i can easily psin the wheels now instead of getting all that wheel hop. the only thing i don't like is now my car vibrates from all over the place. so i have to figure out how to tighten my front bumper and hood so they will stop making noise but the feel of the car is alot better ;D

Re: 3M window weld..**done and tested**

last time i use the same ---- on my car it took like WEEKS to complete cured.

evosol 03-16-2005 01:15 AM

Re: 3M window weld..**done and tested**

yeah, it does take a couple of days to dry all the way through. I say at least 3 days to be safe. My car used to rattle but after 2 years of use its kind of broken in i guess.

Cray91 03-16-2005 05:25 AM

Re: 3M window weld..**done and tested**

I would wait as long as you possibly can for them to dry.

Mine have been sitting in the mech closet with the heater for a few days and they still have a little more to go I think. It takes a while for it to cure because the outside hardens and then slows the inerds from hardening. The 24hrs stuff on the tube probably doesn't refer to ppl laying it down 3in solid.
