Default 3k smoke?

My sisters 91 Honda CRX will smoke at 3000 RPM and I can't figure out why. The ECU threw an injector code so we replaced the injectors, we also changed out the spark plug wires and the spark plugs. The smoking is completely related to RPM's and nothing else that i can figure, you can drive up a hill under load and as long as you stay below 3k it won't smoke but as soon as you go past 3, it smokes. The smoke is kinda a blueish white, but the car isn't losing oil that i can tell.

None of this ever happened untill she installed a new cat back.

the motor has about 160k on it, I would think If it was the rings or a value seats, it would have started before this, but hey i could be wrong.

For some odd reason I'm thinking it could be the fuel injector resistors, but I dont know what they are susposed to read, I can't find any information about the DPFI engines anywhere.

Do you think it could be caused by a bad PCV? I dont think the valves have every been adjusted, think that could do it?

try changing/checking your O2 sensor and cat. I'd leave it alone, as this is a typical honda problem with engines over 150k (spefically older honda engines ie crx)

A blue/white smoke shouldn't be emitting from a lean burn, that should be a grey. Sounds like you're literally frying metal in there. I would pull that head off, and inspect the valves, and the valve seats. You may also have a problem with your oil breather (puking oil into the intake). I mean it just doesn't sound like its a fuel problem to me.

And that injector code can be thrown as I recall on OBD1, if you have a misfire in the cylinder that injector was relative to too.

Check your head, if theres no damage, then it would be worth it to check the piston rings, and maybe just give the block a cleaning (honing).

Good luck.

the ECU gave a code 16 which according to everything I can find says its a fuel system code. I checked the resistance on the fuel injectors and one of them was really off, thats why we replaced them.

The car has a little bit of a shake at idle but no more than its always had. It will only smoke above 3000 RPM. It doesn't smoke below that or under load below that. You can be at full throtle going up a hill and as long as your below 3 its fine.

Anyone know where to get a manual that tells about the DPFI?
