2 intake Manifold Y8/Z6 Which is better?
I have two intake manifold, which is better with a mini-me setup that I have, choice either to do a D16Y7/Y8 head or a D15b7/Y8 head, which manifold is better with the combination. I know that the Y8 intake manifold doesn't have an air temp sensor on it and the Z6 does. If I used the Y8 intake manifold w/o the sensor would the engine still run fine?

Wait... how does it not have an iat?

y8's dont have an iat in the manifold they are located in the intake pipe typical obd2 stuff same applies to b16a2 motors and the list goes on |
Re: 2 intake Manifold Y8/Z6 Which is better?
Good to know, but wouldn't it make more sense to run it in the IM to have a more accurate reading? With it in the pipe wouldn't it run richer?
If that's the case I would put a bung in the Y8 IM for the IAT or have it as close to the TB as possible on the pipe. |

I mean you could drill into the back of the mnaifold if your ---- but I think its not really that important if it was honda wouldnt be throwing them in intakes. |
Re: 2 intake Manifold Y8/Z6 Which is better?
I haven't even used the iat and it ran fine.
as far as the question, whatever one you can get the cheapest or the one you sell for more, use the other one. |
Re: 2 intake Manifold Y8/Z6 Which is better?
Z6 is preferred, esp when adding boost.

Re: 2 intake Manifold Y8/Z6 Which is better?
the y8 mani is said to be the itr mani of the d-series.. big fat plenum and short fat runners.. would definatly be great for boost especially mid-top end wise

my choice is the z6 manifold all day |
Re: 2 intake Manifold Y8/Z6 Which is better?
you guys need to remember with the IAT that honda compensates the tuning for where they put it. So if you do put it in a different location it may change something a tiny amount, but the fact is you're altering something so radical (IE: head swap, turbo) that it's probably not going to matter as long as you have it and the reading is close.

Well you have to look at both manifold side by side to see what Im talking about. Y8 plenum is sweet but the runner volume is very similar to the d15b7 manifold weaksauce. Z6 manifold with basic port work to increase plenum volume along with the fact the runners out of the box are superior is what makes the z6 my choice all day long Testing at the track didnt lie 6 years ago doesnt lie today Its the route to go. |

I might have pics too from hickmans old street 12 sec sohc Its the ganagster set up but needs to have the 92+ flange welded on so you can go larger than a 63-60mm tb |
Re: 2 intake Manifold Y8/Z6 Which is better?
Just buy the edlebrock mani.

You ever been on a flowbench with d series aftermarket parts The skunk2 manifold edelbrock are hype design is half assed they took a b16a manifold plenum and threw it on to long of runners Your also the guy who cant get a simple swap to start dont ----- up my section or Ill just delate all your threads |
Re: 2 intake Manifold Y8/Z6 Which is better?
Well its not the first time I ever swapped an engine. Something is missing out of the picture for this swap. I'll let you know what the problem was when it does run. And I am ignorant of the fact with the edlebrock manifold. I am not a dumb ass I just didn't know.

I have worked on alot of d series all motor builds and know what works. Wanna spit brand name crap and say its the ---- try it h-t not here simple |
Re: 2 intake Manifold Y8/Z6 Which is better?
I just picked up a z6 yesterday i'm building it for boost, You're saying I should just stick with the z6 intake mani? I'm working on porting & polishing the head today but didnt really want to mess with the manifold.

you have more of a chance of ------- ---- up porting the head than the mani, a simple 1" mani/head port match is all i'd ever attempt myself |
Re: 2 intake Manifold Y8/Z6 Which is better?
well for a novice head porter you wont make power just letting you know your kinding wasting your time
if all your doing is a scuff and buff good luck Most heads take 20+ hours of tough labor with very heavy cutters |
Re: 2 intake Manifold Y8/Z6 Which is better?
I am not looking to make the ports huge, I just want to open them up a little but mostly polish them up. I know it will take some time.

Basic port matching doesnt make power just letting you know flowbench doesnt lie track times dont lie |
