1st gear at 55mph. :(

Ok so i am tired as ----, and had to go to the store to get computer paper for my law project bla bla bla.

I put my car in to first at 55mph, and my rpms hit like 9300 :l or so i was trying to get 3rd as im sure you all can guess.

I know let the flaming begin, get a rope, kill your self, fist a chicken, ---- a duck, dumb n1gger, end your self!!!!!

What should i look for as far as issues.
It is a 98 Ls forged internals, and some light valve work, stock cams 3 angle valve job Crower dual stage valve springs, Crower titanium retainers New Honda valve keepers
There has been a slight tick/tap from the engine since i bought it, but never though much about it. dosnt seem any louder now, but i just want to have an idea of things i should look for if i did do something bad. what sings will should there be. Im just now getting in to the working on the internals of engines, so should i redo my valve lash, or should that not have been effected???

I was bout ready to shoot my self when the car lurched forward :'( :'(

How the hell... the transmission had a blockoff that prevents shifting into first past 10mph.. you must've really banged it in there.

Re: 1st gear at 55mph. :(

I never have been able to understand how people do that. My cousin vince did that twice as far as I can remember and blew up two engines in his cavalier when he was 18 or so...

Re: 1st gear at 55mph. :(

Misshifting nogs like that need to stick to autos.

Run a compression and a leakdown test on it. If it all checks out, you have nothing to worry about. That tick or tap you're hearing is either wrist pin movement (if the pistons and rods have floating pins) or it's possibly slap which is also nothing to worry about. If the leaky tests come back fine you're golden.

Re: 1st gear at 55mph. :(

word compression

I am still dont know how people do that. I drive like a monster I have destroyed many transmissions but only due to hard shifts. 2-3rd

my cousin did the same thing in my y8 on 8psi, it hit 9161 and was fine. I drove it for at least 30K more at 10#'s

Plus if you have all that ---- done, it's hopefully fine. Just don't do it again.

i dont think so but the funny thing is my trany dosnt like to go in to first unless if im stopped, and i let the car role just a little bit. :S but some how it slipped right the ---- in there when im cursing at 55.. :3

So compression check, and im just praying it checks out :y

I figured some people think the ls vtack which is typically stock ls bottom end should have the rev limiter set to 9200 so i figured the one time trip to really ------- high isnt that bad, but never done that before and it scared me a bit

as long as you didnt throw a rod or drop a valve or jump time you're probably fine....seems like an instant thing to go wrong.

I did it when i drove a bone stock vx in high school...thank god i probably only sent the z1 to 7500 or so at like 50 mph with that transmission :p

I dont know if i would rev an lsv to 9200 every day :X

VX rods do fine at 7500 rpms, until the meet 14:1 compression, we'll see who wins :)

So Mista, what is it that keeps you out of 1st unless you're almost at a complete stop?

Ya mang. There's no block off for 1st over a certain MPH. How the ---- do you guys expect it knows how fast it is going...?? It would have to be computer controlled and there's no "1st gear blockoff" plug on a manual tranny. :1

However with the 1st gear spining soo fast at 55mph I can see that it would be kind of hard to get into gear. There's no way I could even get my car into 1st gear going 55mph.

I had a friend that did the same thing but from 6th to 3rd in his celica and grenaded everything. Flywheel blew apart, engine grenaded, etc etc.

my friend hit 2nd instead of 4th, and revved out to like 10k. yes it will go over your rev limiter

Did the same thing in my a6/L3 I was kinda hope it would blow up so it would give me a little motivation to finaly build my b18. Hit some where in the upper 8k range

NOTE TO SELF, DONT WOT SHIFT AND GO FROM 3RD TO 2ND.........lol

i had a friend with an old school sentra ser that did he same 5th to 2nd. ended up cracking 2 valves and broke a bunch of rocker arms. just check the whole top end and do a leak down test.

this the same motor with the hole in the block now?

nothing, thats why his went right into first gear at speed.

I'll bet the OP was doing a 2-3 powershift, the higher revs will allow jumping into first easy. Atleast we know he HAD a good tranny, dunno about it now.

Call it all you want. I'm sure if I went to a drag strip I would've done it by now, but in my every day hard driving and ------- with punks that say "You better go pick on a Sentra" when I tell them all I have is a little single cam I haven't done it.

Bone1 11-30-2007 01:10 AM

Re: 1st gear at 55mph. :(

I've done a 2-1 missed shift, but didn't let the clutch out, just wore the brass a little.

But then again I used to do 2-1 downshifts without the clutch when autoxing.

Under threshold braking, knock it out of second, holld gas to the floor whille applying presure to 1st gear, pops in and power thru the corner, get pointed straight and slam it back into second.

I hurt a few shifter forks doing that, but I won the points race for the year in my class.

my 5th gear is stupid hard to get in at times, 4-5 ihas been 4-3 a few times, luckily on the highway doing speeds in 3rd gear range. Im gonna switch to that synchromesh ---- in my trans cause 10-30 is shitty, my 3rd just started catching on hard up shifts and reverse can be a ass sometimes.

your about to be owned by bearings, there is no cure except to rebuild.............

I wish it was that easy with your mindset.........but dipshits will always be 1 quart low.

i accidentally popped it into 2nd instead of 5th on yuriys turbo ls

it made sex sounds for the couple seconds it was in there lol

i think it was 9k? idk he was drunk and i had a little to drink but not enough to blow anything but im retarded enough that i dont need alcohol in me to miss a shift

Probably just needs the valves relashed. LS are the most forgiving of all the Honduh motors.

I did the same thing in an LS, missed a shift from 2nd back into 1st, the only time ive ever missed a shift going into a gear i wasnt supposed to go into, hit like 9300-9400 and engine/trans still ran like a champ. Of course i was also 16 at the time lol

Re: 1st gear at 55mph. :(

I was eating lunch one day working a few Summers ago and had a burger in my right hand. Took an off ramp, tried shifting from 5th to 4th and hit 2nd instead. My 180k miles d16z6 hit around 9500-10000 before I could get the clutch back in. Still ran like a champ and never made a noise.

Re: 1st gear at 55mph. :(

my isuzu sometimes like to catch between the 2-4 and the 3-5 gate internally, and i gotta go back to whatever gear i was previously in, then back to where i wanted to go. missed a shift once in a while with the toyota, shift pattern wasn't straight front and back, it had a slight turn for some reason
