well i am having this re-occurring issue with the motor/ temp gauge. my temp gauge says my car is getting hot when i damn know there is no way possible. then again recently my rad went out on me and i lost the coolant and by the time i relized it, i had ran hot for about 2-4 minutes to get to a auto store to reapair the rad itself. what im getting to is that the car runs and has power like it used to, but my temp gauge says its getting hot. ive replaced my thermostat, recently replaced my water pump and flushed the coolant system. i drove it for about 10 minutes and then sat in a parking lot for about another 20 minutes and it started to get hot again and i lost all my heat. although i can still touch the head and hoses and hold them for a short period of time before my hand starts to get to hot. i dont think i set the head gasket on its way out, but is there a possibility that i have blown it, though i have no signs of a blown head gasket? i have no mixed coolant with oil or nothing. or is it possible that maybe from running hot like it did for 2-4 minutes at sub 20mph driving done something else, like rings or something? im puzzled and cant figure this out.

cliffnotes:

temp gauge says im running hot, installed new thermostat and flushed coolant system. got heat again.
drove, temp gauge says im running hot again. lost heat.
doesnt have symptoms of overheating, ie- tight rad hoses, oerflow can bubbling.
no mixed coolant, but not sure about head gasket.

help me i need my car guys!!!!!!!

Sounds like you've got a problem. I usually just installed a new sohc when I had problems I couldn't figure out. They were cheap enough and plentiful back then.

you putting in water or coolant ?

you bleed the system when your refill ?

you might need a new rad cap that is what it sounds like to me kinda :P

clean all your grounds especially t ground stat wire brush grounds cause funky stuff with temp gauges

i found the problem.....was a ------- heater core being clogged with rust buildup and gunk beyond hell. took me all day to get the bitch out but shes running good now. new thermostat, water pump, coolant, and a nice cleanup inside. thanks for looking out or me though guys... im tired now, been up since 9 pm yesterday and i worked last night and tonight :1

if you have the time clean up those grounds too Im sure they are rust buckets


also your going to want to dump that radiator again has it will be rust chunk quickly

yeah i planned on pming you about the cam this week some time. also the other part i need im trying to get a pic of. but it holds the rocker assembly.

wtf guys? what causes so much buildup in such a short time? i had to once again flush my coolant system... this is driving me crazy........

I told you it would. Simple the whole system is rusted to hell proably never fully cleaned in 20+years.




Run it dump it. Run it dump it. Run it dump it. Expect to do this alot. Just use water while doing this.
