**NEW INFO** URGENT HELP NEEDED, Intermediate shaft issue!
*SEE BELOW**
Ok, so I converted a auto DX to a manual SOHC ZC. I had the motor before, and I went to the JDM importer to get a SOHC ZC tranny. The tranny looks fine, it's not LSD or anything, it's cable of course, now I take my axles that I had in my old car which was a dx 5 spd and the axles are probably 1-2mm in diameter too small. What axles do I need? I had put a USDM Si tranny in my old civic with these axles and there weren't any problems. Do I somehow need to run teg ales with a intermediate shaft? It thought this was only for a DOHC ZC tranny. Please help. I can take pics if needed. Jay |

I'm not sure, I asked for a SOHC ZC tranny and this is what they gave me.
It's an L3 tranny but that's what they all are. Would the 88-89 axles also need the intermediate shaft? So that means I have to get the ZC int. shaft I couldn't use the teg one right? That BLOWS! At least i know it's a ZC tranny and not a DX that they sold me. :s |
Re: URGENT HELP NEEDED, Axles don't fit in TRANNY!
I found this from the following website: http://www.enginereplacement.com/htd...vic_crx_zc.htm
If you are useing your stock transmission or any other US L3 transmission your stock axles will work. For Japanese ZC transmissions use ZC intermediate shaft and two right hand axles from your model car with 90-93 Integra inner joints. 90-93 Integra axles can be modified to work also. If your car is either a CRX HF, or Civic Standard model you will also need to replace the knuckles and hubs from any other Civic or CRX model to use the modified 90-93 Integra axles. DOH! :( |
Re: URGENT HELP NEEDED, Axles don't fit in TRANNY!
Trying to find a intermediate shaft SUCKS.
couldn't I just use the civic axles with teg inners rather they run the int. shaft? If not I have 2 right side civic axles and i can get some teg ones so I can make the hybrid axles if only I could find the darn intermediate shaft. |
Re: URGENT HELP NEEDED, Axles don't fit in TRANNY!
yank the tranny, change the diff, reinstall, use normal axles.
|
Re: URGENT HELP NEEDED, Axles don't fit in TRANNY!
lol!
That sounds easy. :S I'll just find the intermediate shaft and run the hybrid axles, equal length is good! :) |
Re: URGENT HELP NEEDED, Axles don't fit in TRANNY!
hit up Ebay.............

Re: URGENT HELP NEEDED, Axles don't fit in TRANNY!
Problem with Ebay is me being from Canada, everyone jacks up the shipping charges, and then they ship UPS, and on someting that's $50 I get an extra $25 of brokerage charges when it gets here. :( no fun.
there's probably 40-50 JDM importers in the city, I'm sure i'll find one tomorrow i just wish i would have been able to get one this weekend. |
Re: URGENT HELP NEEDED, Axles don't fit in TRANNY!
HOLY FACK PEOPLE ARE DUMB!!!!!!
That and they can't speak english. :( I'm having a hard time finding that int. shaft. Some places tell me I don't need it for the SOHC motor. I think I'm going to call a big name place in the US and find out from them. |
Re: URGENT HELP NEEDED, Axles don't fit in TRANNY!
um im confused I have bought numerous jsm sohc trans and they all used the same spline style has my dx ef also the dohc zc diff is a different spline so your axle would not even work
|
Re: URGENT HELP NEEDED, Axles don't fit in TRANNY!
Well, then I guess I have the DOHC ZC tranny.
All I know is the spline in the tranny is 2mm diameter bigger then the stock civic axles. I picked up a 86-89 integra half shaft, as per info I found it will work however I can only use 2 of the 3 mounting holes. Now my problem is to find the inner joint that goes into the tranny for the 90-93 integra, at this point I'm going to buy some reman axles and take the joints, at $75 each..that sucks. |
Re: URGENT HELP NEEDED, Axles don't fit in TRANNY!
well the 86-89 teg shaft is a different lenght then the dohc zc making axle choice different. If you want to do it right use a dohc zc jdm shaft there is a guy on ebay who sells them all the time and 90-93 teg axles it what I ran on my old d build and will be reinstalling it shortly. No problems with the axle set up at all. Just words from experince

That's what I looked at. I think it will work, or should I say..we'll see. :o |
Re: **NEW INFO** URGENT HELP NEEDED, Intermediate shaft issue!
Ok, so i got the 86-89 integra half shaft, I then went to the local parts store and bought some axles, one of them being a 89 integra left side axle meaning, the side for the intermediate shaft.
I put the axle in the intermediate shaft all the way in, and if I hold the cup part on the axle, I can turn the intermediate shaft, sort of like if the grooves weren't working or like it was sliding off. Imagine if this was in the car? if I can do this by hand... So what the hell??!?!?!? Is this normal? I just called hmotorsonline.com and they have a ZC int. shaft but only ship UPS which takes 5-7 business days. :( **EDIT** this guy on ebay sells the axle cups to use in the ZC tranny, they are much different then what I have. ZC cups from ebay site: http://www.jandtperformance.com/img/Axle_Cups.JPG Here is what I have at home from left to right: 90 integra right axle, 89 integra left axle, 90 civic right axle, 90 civic right axle, 90 civic left axle http://www.jandtperformance.com/img/axles.jpg As you can tell, all the USDM ones, even the integra ones only have splines half way through compared to what the guy sells on ebay. This is damn confusing. |
