your thoughts on a honda circle track car

yeah. so as the topic says. my brother back home, races in a class called "enduro racing" bacially they put everyone that shows up that night(for that class) on the 1/4 mile oval track,(asphault) and race for 2 hours, timed. the person with the most laps wins.(usally a pot of $5000!) you can pit, whatever. if you wreck your car STAYS on the track, unless it catches fire, or rolls.

now the part that will be fun. mod's are open as long as you stay with the same make. IE< chevy with chevy parts. honda with honda parts. safety mods are 100% open. you must remove all glass. my brother has a caprice, with chevy van springs and a SB chevy engine with some kind of cam. everything gutted, and does really well with it. he has $600 bucks in his car.

I've never seen him race yet. my dad says he does really well. my brother says hondas usally always finish. so I wanna make a car...stick with a Vtec something, but what about suspension? what would you use for suspension? *gotta keep it honda* I would do it cheap as possible. cheap and fun is the key.

how would you set your car up? sounds like alot of fun...

You could buy my Caprice off of me and be a P I M P like your bro :P

Have you considered any other cars, RX-7's are cheap as hell here, same with most 80's compact cars..

SkunT 08-09-2004 11:34 AM

Re:your thoughts on a honda circle track car

yeah, I have considered alot of cars. it will probably just come down to whatever can be bought at the time. but doesnt the race sound like a dam good time?

HondaTuner 08-09-2004 11:37 AM

Re:your thoughts on a honda circle track car

Yup, it does. Is that AE86 still for sale at that 'yard near you? You could race in that..

SkunT 08-09-2004 11:41 AM

Re:your thoughts on a honda circle track car

yeah, but I dont intend to buy the car for some time....probably another 6 months, just looking at the honda area...

Only because I already have the car, and by then, it will be a perfect beater. I wonder which speings I could switch to? get some prelude springs?

hell yeah. see. this is why I post ---- like this. I think I will have to keep an eye out for this.
http://ripcuda.50megs.com/omni.html

another rule, the car must appear to be stock, so any omni would work, put a GLH badge on it, and turbo it. this could be done really really cheap.

Re:your thoughts on a honda circle track car

Stock quarter mile times:
1986 Dodge Omni GLH Turbo - 16.2

Hell.. that's .2 seconds faster than the fastest CRX ever made.. That would make a good platform for autocross.. up the boost and work on suspension :)

87na_rx7 08-09-2004 11:59 AM

Re:your thoughts on a honda circle track car

another cool thing about the Omni-GLH, the GLH acutally stands for something badass. GLH=Goes Like Hell ;D

check out this

the very last little article. 11.89 in a omni, hell yeah. looks super easy to. and cheap. I like that combo.
BTW, I could get a base omni, and put the shelby daytona engine in it. I didnt realize that was all forged internals, and everything. capeable of 16psi. read the link.

what so fun about going straight for 1/4 of a mile.(I know, its fun, I do it to) I like anything racing. anything with cars/trucks (anything with 4 wheels)

it super cheap, as I said, my brother has $600 in his entire set-up, I don't have to go to school to race, the money to win is incredable,$5000 for first, its local, and they race every weekend, so I wouldnt have to travel all over the dam place to catch a race, and stay in a "no-tell mo-tel" and my brother and his friends already do it, so I wouldnt have to be secret about finding all the tips and tricks.... why not do it?

Hell.. Asscar's been around for so long.. Watching it and doing it is too totally different things though, trust me..

Also, I meant to circle track.. I don't know what I was thinking with saying autocross, sorry man..

I've seen that Omni before (one on the website). That pretty pimp to get a POS into the 11's..

" When the car was a T1 with 16 psi of boost it was running only 14.0s....but the extra 175 - 200 hp of nitrous I put through it made it run in the 11s....11.89 at 118 being the quickest. "

:o That amazes me..

Re:your thoughts on a honda circle track car

humm...the more I read these sites, I think a dodge omni, shelby something would be a little better. from what I read, they are stiff and can handle a beating. (2 hours of racing at high RPM's will take a toll) humm...

Re:your thoughts on a honda circle track car

i just found out that my local 3/8 mile banked dirt oval has a front wheel drive class.... i got my hopes up until i read the rulebook and it states that "cars must use cast iron engine block"

that rules out hondas :(

3sge 08-09-2004 12:40 PM

Re:your thoughts on a honda circle track car

dont get a toyota AWD. dont get an all wheel drive at all. all wheel drive would ------- suck in a quarter mile oval.
you would loose traction realy fast.

Thats BS.. Honda's probably dominated so they took them out :-\

Re:your thoughts on a honda circle track car

yeah, my rule book says you cant use an aluminum intake, but that is for the V-8 guys. I would look a little more into it. when they made the rule of no aluminum intake, they probably didnt think about honda's and other 4cyl cars...

I would call and talk about it, or go to a tech meeting. Im sure since the aluminum block was stock, they would let you use it.

91civicZ6 08-09-2004 01:08 PM

Re:your thoughts on a honda circle track car

i actually think the one dude was right.. i think they outlawed aluminum blocks so the quicker, lighter, more powerful & better geared imports cant ---- up the shitty dodge daytonas and other items of fagotry that run at the track..

maybe in your area...

Re:your thoughts on a honda circle track car

i saw an article in circle track magazine about a dirt track in ohio or somewhere that had a class for front wheel drive hondas and ----...it looked pretty cool

Re:your thoughts on a honda circle track car

Re:your thoughts on a honda circle track car

ive seen 2 86-89 accords circle track it locally, i never knew there was a rule about iron blocks only (86-89 accord A20A is one heavy ass Iron engine), very strange. But yea the high rpm does take a serious toll on the engine after a while.

get a turbo starion and turn up the boost 8)

SkunT 08-09-2004 08:58 PM

Re:your thoughts on a honda circle track car

I talked to my brother again, he said there are alot of omni's out there, the seem to last in the race to. he said the power band is low, so they dont have to run at high RPM's. interesting. so maybe I will just research things a little more...

There's a chick at the local dirt track that races a datsun pickup, and kicks ass. And check out Grass roots motorsports site. They have a contest where you are limited to a dollar amount equal to the year (ex. $2004). In the last issue there was a nova running tens. You might be able to find some useful ideas in there.
