You will all eat my carbon monoxide! (Pg 2 has pics)
Ha!
The new engine is getting ready! Fully built SOHC D16Z6 head on a D16A6 block. Eagle Godzilla Sleeves, SRP Forged Pistons, Eagle Rods, All New Bearings, Honed, Decked, Hot Tanked, Upgraded Oil Pump. Still going to run the factory cam shaft and rockers, but fully ported/polished racing head with some upgraded internals. Plus to boot, 780cc fuel injectors and my new love a T3/T4 turbo! All I gotta do is get that damn custom manifold made, and the wideband O2 sensor. Yeah, this was just really an excuse to boost me up to 1012 posts. But seriously, you will all eat my dust! |
Re:You will all eat my carbon monoxide!
---- that thing is gonna be hella-fast. so you think its gonna take the hotrex setup :P and 780 cc injectors :o how much boost you gonna be puttin down?
|
Re:You will all eat my carbon monoxide!
I don't seriously know what to expect. I think I will push 15 psi daily using the 450s until Onyx can figure out how the hell to reprogram the ECU to handle the 780s.
When we can do that, and get fuel maps going I will start running gradually up to 22 psi until I'm making 400+ whp :) Now the last things for me to buy is a set of axles and the wideband oxygen sensor! |
Re:You will all eat my carbon monoxide!
thats nuts... i wanna see the numbers when u get it all figured out!
|
Re:You will all eat my carbon monoxide!
sounds pretty mean to me
|
Re:You will all eat my carbon monoxide!
yeah I'm gonna run it at 15 psi at the track this coming April 18th (I hope, BMR still hasn't gotten back with me and need their manifold :()
Then I hope to get another run late summer with it at 22 psi. It won't be super impressive for those of you at sea level, were a mile up here so I'll be really friggin happy if I can break a 13. I mean C5 Vettes were running 16s here last year, so that should tell ya how harsh the air is here :( |
Re:You will all eat my carbon monoxide!
Sounds cool.
What are the specs on the turbo? It may be kinda hard to squeeze 400 hp out of that turbo, you may have to go bigger. I have been hearing about people running sc61 on d16s, that may be the route you need to take. |

Re:You will all eat my carbon monoxide!
nice ------- setup man. i wish i had the money. good luck with 400whp
|
Re:You will all eat my carbon monoxide!
lets see some pics!
|
Re:You will all eat my carbon monoxide!
damn thats a nice setup. I think you should go for a bigger turbo though if your planning on boosting 22 psi.
|
Re:You will all eat my carbon monoxide!
We want pics damn it! ;D
|
Re:You will all eat my carbon monoxide!
you runnin this on the streets? :o
what you doing for traction? won't it be like impossible to get traction on the streets? |

Re:You will all eat my carbon monoxide!
sounds like you should just skip the streets and make it a full drag car now. ;)
|
Re:You will all eat my carbon monoxide!
Yeah, this is what happens when your parents send you college money hahaha :)
No, I got an electric boost controller so I can just sit inside the car and turn it from "drag" to street. Traction is going to be my biggest enemy, I bought a d15b7 tranny JDM, with the LSD option in it - that should help somewhat. Right now I'm on Toyo Proxey FZ4s (or something like that) tires that are pretty good for grip. I don't plan on dropping the clutch to high, I think it will be to dangerous to the axels and transmission, I gotta try and make this car last a while :) But I'm sure that hitting serious boost in the acceleration will make up for it. I guess maybe I'm just being a baby about it but... well thats my right after I spend this much right? :) |
Re:You will all eat my carbon monoxide!
sounds good. cant wait to see wht it throws down. as soon as i install my 3 inch exhaust my car is getting tuned. im sleeving my block this upcoming winter. so you may own me for a summer......then itll get close.

Re:You will all eat my carbon monoxide!
Only disadvantage to this whole thing is that its going in a del sol, one of the heavier "hondas" (or at least hardest to do weight reduction on). But ---- if I care, its a convertible and one of the most fun cars I have ever drove :)
|
Re:You will all eat my carbon monoxide!
People didn't believe me that spraying water and windshield washer fluid would prevent detonation either ::)
|
Re:You will all eat my carbon monoxide!
ill party. if i do lose, it wont be by alot.. and itll still be one of the fastest cars on this site.

then well all party.........hehe
|
Re:You will all eat my carbon monoxide!
ah see I'm not after having the "fastest" car :) Cuz I know its not going to be. I just want a ------- fun car. :)
|
Re:You will all eat my carbon monoxide!
same here. i want a d series with 275ishhp that will lay a spankin to most everything
|
Re:You will all eat my carbon monoxide!
I think 275sh horsepower is gonna be an underestimate for ya if you're running 18 psi. Shortyz always gave the rule of thumb, 20 horsepower per lb of boost. Of course you also have to figure in timing retard (the more retarded, the less power you get) and tuning with the fuel :D
|
Re:You will all eat my carbon monoxide!
Anything over 10 psi on a lil rex or hatchie done right will be fast as hell, When you say rule of thumb are you talking about for d series? And 20hp per psi added onto the stock motor hp? You have to mean total right?
|
Re:You will all eat my carbon monoxide!
20 hp per pound on a built ass maniac of a mini me..
|
Re:You will all eat my carbon monoxide!
last time i weighed the sol at the local track it was only 2200 lb without me in it and you can loose 200lb prety quick (full race converion).
|
Re:You will all eat my carbon monoxide!
Its a rule of thumb (in a perfectly tuned engine) on top of the factory power. 1 lb of boost could add about 20 horsepower in addition to the original horsepower. There are other factors to consider though; traction, transferrence of power from the engine through the differential (lightened flywheel will make a difference here), engine mount stiffness, mileage on the motor, and other modifications (is it intercooled? water injected? 104, 120 octane?)
These are alot of the factors to consider, but yes, Shortyz always gave me that rule of thumb of 20 horsepower per lb of boost :) |
Re:You will all eat my carbon monoxide!
I think I was about 2150sh last year, I don't remember :(
|
Re:You will all eat my carbon monoxide!
Yea in my experience ive always noticed numbers of 10 - 15... Usually closer to 10, sure i believe 20 is possible, but with a lot of tuning and $. Thats not the case with most of us boosted her so i think the rule of thumb in this forum should be 10 an 15 if you wanna get someone excited...
