There was a psychological study a while back where they had some students play jailers and some play prisoners. They all were supposed to live in this mock prison isolated from everyone else for like 2 weeks. But the study was cut short when the students who were the jailers started to seriously abuse the prisoners. These were randomly selected people I believe. Maybe there is something about the human condition that leads to the behavior, I don't know.
