xenon hid kits any good?

Yis?

I do alot of night driving on back roads where i live and all sorts of animals/people/fallen trees and whatnot are always in the road. One time, i almost ran over a mattress which either fell out of the back of the truck or some freaks wanted a real thrill by ------- in the middle of the road. Who knows.

Know anyone rocking these kits? They say plug and play but you know how that goes....

Thanks jews.

the ones i have seen have made a loud screeching noise and take forever to warm up. but for 70 dollars on ebay its worth giving them a shot

Re: xenon hid kits any good?

if you are worried about them being actually legal, no. other than that they work pretty well

For fog lights...I think something with a lower color temperature would give better results.

The pnp pic above looks pretty good. Was that an ebay kit?

i got my 6k off oznium.com but they have since stopped selling them there. i would really recomend getting HIDs for any car, it helps a TON with seeing at night and you can see signs from like 3 times as far away.

As long as you're not one of the douchewaffles blinding oncoming traffic.

I don't see properly installed HID conversions as rice...but improperly, yes.

They are so cheap nowdays, used to be $400+ for a kit

I've heard these things generally suck in the stock halogen housing, are they just as bad with cheap projectors?

all i know is i hate my projectors for night driving, but i dont have an hid kit.
they are a pain to get set right, and the stock bulbs suck.
is it worth it to get some hids for aftermarket projectors?

I've heard mixed results from using anything but OEM projectors made for HIDs, but I would think that someone out there manufactures aftermarket projectors specifically for HIDs.

Personally, I'd probably try and salvage some OEM ones from a wrecked vehicle. Hyundais/Kias even use them now, FFS

True story. They shine all over the place, blind oncoming traffic, and won't improve lighting since it isn't being directed well. I have hear A LOT of good results in using TSX projector housings and HID's retrofitted into OEM head lights.

Re: xenon hid kits any good?

I hear using projectors without hid's are garbage. They say the light distrobution sucks.

Granted, my friend has them in his integra (the halos blew out ebay ----) and they work better than his stockers. idk. His ---- does light up the road. His low beams look like my hi-beams and i have silverstars.

probably because they're blinding everyone

REAL HID projectors have a glass lens on the end made to distribute the light evenly. Fake cheap projectors don't and so the light goes wherever the hell it pleases. If you've ever seen HID bulbs without some sort of focus, they are bright as ----, and annoying/dangerous to oncoming traffic. If I fire up the 600w HID in my room, it will light up the entire apartment (just with the ambient light) as well as the wall across the grass from my window.

Bright ----.

Whenever I do this, I'll probably call around some salvage yards and find a wrecked something with REAL HID projectors. Of course, more expensive cars will have better ones on average (s2k, tsx/tl/rl, lexuses (lexii?), bimmers, etc) with a crispy cutoff and good light distribution, but a cheap set from a kia econobox would be better than ebay HIDs in ebay projectors...

My ---- is way brighter the my buddys hatch with oem housings and hids.
I just aimed them so I didn't torch anyone's retinas. O0

Re: xenon hid kits any good?

if your bulb housing has a cutoff, and you dont get ricer high K purple blue 10k lights they work good. ive had a set of 5k in oem bmw projectors and a set of 4300k with digital slim ballast in my cbr which has a great cutoff for a non projector housing

hondacivc93 08-25-2008 08:39 PM

Re: xenon hid kits any good?

i have aftermarket TYC housings with projectors and my cutoff is really good IMO , ive never been flashed with highbeams and people i cruise with alot have never relaly complained about them. ive seen several aftermarket housings perform decently with HIDs in them, but factory halogen housings glare ------ all over the place.

just buy HID kits from me. I have some O-Nex kits. I have 6k personally in my car and I love them. Looks great. Works great. Friends with the same kit have been going 2+years strong. If you want a kit, lemme know I'll get you one. Won't be as cheap as those POS eBay kits, price will be roughly $150ish [for single beam kits, bi-xenon kits more]. Check out their website if you wanna learn more www.o-nex.com

being someone that has sold quite a few kits, I'm gonna have to disagree. Mine aren't made in China or Taiwan. They be jDM y0!

there is definitely a difference in quality. eBay ones may work fine for some people, for me it just doesn't cut it. By all means do buy eBay ones, I'm all for saving money. Doesn't matter to me. I'm just simply offering what I believe to be a more superior product at a rather affordable price.

Ebay hid it is.

This is a legal mod, correct?

What about aftermarket lamps, specifically the yellow tinted ones?

HMTguy 08-28-2008 02:29 PM

Re: xenon hid kits any good?

No, there is nothing legal about installing HIDs in a car that didn't come with them from the factory. A dumb one, but still a law.

So I picked up a set of these on eBay for $65 shipped, and I was VERY surprised at the quality (in a good way). I purchased a 6000k kit from Xenonautohaus on eBay and installed them into my stock 92 4-door headlight housings. I was afraid of glare at first but for $65 I just wanted to try them out. It has a very nice cutoff and the bulb actually has a shield built into the bottom of it to prevent light reflecting up into people's eyes from the bottom of the housing. I went with the 6000k just for a slight bluish tint, and I'm happy to report it doesn't look ricey at all, it's exactly as I wanted. I did lose my high beams with this kit, but the HIDs are brighter than my crappy old high beams even were. After going for a test drive I wasn't shining too high at all or blinding anybody. Shipping was super fast, took 2 days to arrive in WI from CA.

I know this thread sucks without pics... I'll take some very soon. And cross your fingers this cheap eBay kit doesn't stop working in a week :6
