Re: xbox and ps3 are better than any pc
those cards are about 400 a peice. so its not quite 3k. the mother board is a few hundred dollars.
and you are right, no game would require that much, but no game will be able to slow those cards down for years and years.
IF four gefore 2 video cards could work together and had two cpus on each card you could easily play any game today... its been what damn near 10 years...

but you are close. but thats on an enitre system. if you want to count everything, count the thousands of dollars you have to spend on a quality tv to see the great performance out of your ps3 or xbox and the couch you have to sit on, hundreds of cases of mountain dew etc...

Power supplies don't cost over 100? For a computer with 4 video cards, yes it will. Do you realize how much power they consume? The current cards use 130-300w, each. When you're talking about powering 4, you'll need at least 520w, then more for processor, ram, etc....easily surpassing 1kilowatt.

Ram and processor and harddrive all need to be "performance" to get the full potential out of this setup, 3k might be a bit high but I don't see a adequate system being built for under $2500.
I can agree that keyboard + mouse > console gamepad. But both consoles you can use a keyboard/mouse, so it's not really a valid argument. You don't "need" an expensive tv to play these...you can deal with a black and white tv if you're really desperate. I'd rather play 1-2k for a large high def flat panel and have a big tv to watch movies, play games, and watch television on...than a $300-500+ decent monitor (high res to make use of having 4 cards). You gonna sit around the monitor and watch tv/movies with your girlfriend/wife/friends/kids? ---- no, you need a big tv anyway.
I enjoy pc gaming (rts and fps like you two mentioned), but will never agree they're the better value for gaming.

Fyi the top computers on Futuremark use 1300watt psus. I dropped out of the overclocking "scene" a few years ago and haven't built a computer since, but I remember when a 300watt psu was the ----. My how the times have changed.
