Re:Xbox mods

I Mod Xboxes on the side for friends and such.
Done about 15 of them so far, never had one have any problems with reliability. (Except the DVD drive's going out, and that’s a known issue with older boxes, and a modded box uses the drive much less so it prolongs its life anyway)

My personal one has a Xenium chip with usb/controler port, external 10 color LED for status, 200gig drive, upgraded fan, Fake carbon fiber skin. Etc...

I have about 50 real Xbox games, about 15000 Emulated games from every system I could find including Sega Genises-SNES-NES-N64-Coleco-DOS games-PS1....

also has about the entire Futurama collection, about 10 movies, ATHF seasons 1,2 and 3 and a bunch more.

I have also done LED mods on the controllers so I can tell which one is plugged in without having to follow the cords.

Re:Xbox mods

Unfortionaly Xbox 2 is scheduled to come out without HDD's built in so moding them wouldnt be quite as good. Only mod would be like the PS2 mods where it will play DVDR disc's and imported games.
Guess we will see.

As for Vouches hrm main thing would be my Ebay as I havent bought anything from anyone on this site...yet.

PS2 is in the works but shouldnt be much harder, instead of a 6 wire install its like 12 to 14. I have been soldering for so long on things that this is no big deal.

Re:Xbox mods

Price for parts and $100 for Install + everything I have.
chip runs 45.99 and HDD's vary depending on sise.
I have only use western Digital Hard drives in my installes because I trust em. Might be a little more then other brands but they are higher quality in my book and I have built/repaired computers for the last 10 years. though if you have a request i can check into compatibility and install it.

All my installes are Soldered in, non of these solderless adaptors, they have too many problems with seating or coming off.

I will put together a list of what i have on the box that comes with it tonight when i get home.

Re:Xbox mods

well thats without HDD, and price on those vary depending on sise and the prices change almost daily. but here is as of today.

WD 200gigs run $114.00 WD 160's run $91.00
WD 80's run $62.81
WD 40's run $52.33
they used to have 120's but they arnt listed right now.

These prices I got off newegg.com where i get all of my drives.
If your looking at another brand let me know so I can see if it is compatible with the Xbox. (they have to be lockable drives)

Re:Xbox mods

Hahaha yeah biger is better.

Lets put it this way, most xbox games run about 4 gigs each. most movies run from 200 megs to 4 gigs.
(1000 megs = 1 gig)
So the more room you want to have to put stuff on it the biger the drive you go.

200 gig's is alot of space

only if Boom3r was local......don't feel like shipping across the border :P

Re:Xbox mods

Well its would be faster if you paypal the $ so i can order the parts and get them on there way too.
That way when i get the box i should have the parts around the same time and can get it done faster. usualy takes about a week for everything. takes about 3 days alone just to copy all the files over to it.

Re:Xbox mods

100 to mod an xbox??... sorry to rip on you man, but thats ----, if you want one modded go to www.xbox-scene.com/forum ... lots of people there aren't all out to make money, to give you an idea, before i knew how to do it i sent mine out to a guy and he charged like 25 bucks for install which included, chip install/hard drive set up/larger fan and install/some l.e.d's... and before you buy a hd, check out some of these sites... www.slickdeals.net www.passwird.com www.fatwallet.com you can usually find 200 gigs for like 50 after rebates... to give you an estimate of how many games you can back up... most games range from 2.5-5 gigs... although there are smaller and larger games as well... for a modded xbox to be reliable, your gonna want to have it soldered in, this is especially important if you move your xbox a lot, you can get chips for as cheap as 20 bucks, and as expensive as 50-60... currently some popular chips are the xenium ice, xecuter 3, and i believe the new version of smartxx... in reality, if you just want to be able to back up games and play them, you can only play one at a time, so sometimes you can find a 40 gig hard drive dirt cheap (my school sold their old ones for like 10 bucks, but they are all out now) and back up a few games.... also if you buy a hard drive and aware of all the things with live, (it is believed that the hard drive you use to first get on live is logged and live checks to see if this hard drive is in use every time, as well as to check for modded bios bla bla bla... basically don't use live unless you know a lot of ----) you are going to have to find one that can be locked, use this page http://xboxdrives.x-pec.com/ ... if you don't have an xbox, you can get them for like 100 at eb games and such places, figure 100 - xbox, 25 - chip, 25-100 install(don't be an idiot and pay the latter), 50 - hd.. really check out www.xbox-scene.com there is lots of useful information, also don't worry about no live... there is a thing called xlink kai... it uses a computer with two network connections, one to the internet and one to the xbox, some tunneling software, and when everything works right you can use games with system link such as halo, halo2, unreal to play against people from anywhere on the net <-- much better than live cause its free and you can use modded xboxs as well as 'stock' xboxs

cliff notes:
don't be stupid and pay more than 50 to have everything installed and set up

don't worry about live, go to www.xbox-scene.com and look up xlink kai

hard drives can be had for cheap, check out www.slickdeals.net www.passwird.com www.fatwallet.com

WWW.XBOX-SCENE.COM/FORUM is your bitch, now use it

Re:Xbox mods

important things to know before having your xbox modded...

your version number... http://xbox-scene.com/versions.php

difference of mod chips... http://xbox-scene.com/modchips.php

(on some xboxs (1.0-1.5) you can mod it without a chip)

sign up for the forum on www.xbox-scene.com/forum then visit these pages..

mod chip installers, i recommend dougmod (i had twisted.penguin mod mine, however he left their site, if you want i can see if he still does them and i can give you his contact info)... http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showforum=29

need an xbox/want one premodded here is their buy/sell/trade forum... http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showforum=12

stingray 01-07-2005 12:05 AM

Re:Xbox mods

before you send your xbox out... http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=167602

dougmod offers FREE mod chip installs for versions 1.0-1.5 for the 1.6 he charges 10.. this guy is well known, he isn't gonna rip you off, also note he charges 15 for a hard drive install... so all in all you pay at most 25 for it to be modded... not bad at all...

Haha Obviously you didnt read well. I didnt say $100 to mod it. I said "Price for parts and $100 for Install + everything I have."

If you dont think 200+ gigs of information is worth it then do it yourself doesn't bother me at all. It's only taken me 3 years to grow my collection to what it is curently.

My offer wasnt for people that want to mod an xbox its for people that dont want to risk ruining there box nor spend the time to find 15000 Roms + emulators, + all the software like DVD2XOX, Xbox Media Center, your choice of Desktops (unleashX, avalaunch, EvoX) 40+ games Etc...
Plus if anyone ever askes for info because they are looking to do it themselves I always offer to assist with any questions I can answer.

it took me about a week to fill my 250 gig with games and movies, it goes fast, games can be rented, downloaded, whatever you want, roms can be downloaded... whatever, is anyone is that stupid to pay that much nothing is gonna change their mind after what i just posted
