Default Is it worth it? CLIFFNOTES: Is it worth all my time and money to boost an auto?

Well, I am now a poor college student with hardly any money to spare, but I can scrounge up enough to turbo my civic. I have a 96, D16Y8....and its a ------- automatic (I dont have the money to convert it to manual and boost it). I already have the VAFC and gauges installed and i have a .42/.48 Garrrett T3, a BOV, DSM 450's, resistor box, and injector clips sitting in my room. I still need pipes, intercooler, manifold, downtube....all that fun stuff. I'm starting to doubt if it's worth spending all my time and money to turbo an auto d16y8, so someone either talk me out of it or give me reason to continue, because I dont know what to do.

I'd say boost it and when the tranny fails you (more than likely will) switch it out for a 5spd. Hopefully you'll have enough time between boosting it and the tranny failing you to save up enough for a 5spd swap. Also I'm not sure how friendly OBD-2 ECU's are with boost and forms of fuel management, I've heard they tend to be rather difficult to deal with. Now that I think about it skip the boost setup for now and convert your car to OBD-1 and manual at the same time, then boost it...otherwise you're just going to blow ---- up.

Half of me says you should do it, and the other half says you shouldn't.

Hope that helps.

if you insist on doing it, add an external tranny cooler to the mix.

The car is in perfect condition with 80k miles on it, theres no way I'll be able to find a car that nice for the price I'll get for selling it. It also has all of my stereo stuff installed in it already and I don't want to pull it all back out, I've had the car for less than a year.

1. Sell the stupid stereo stuff and 2. buy a tranny and 3. obd-1 conversion & turbo it... faster in all three steps
