Drilling a hole in some stainless steel on the job. I was doing it on the bumper of my work van and the drill bit snapped. The drill and remainder of the bit drilled straight through my thumb of the hand I was holding the piece with. i could see the bone and the tendon. Wasn't pretty.

Re: work injurys?

too many to list but here are the ones that hurt

1-Drove drill bit through the webing between my thumb and index finger.
2-stepped on a borad that had a 16 penny nail that was coverd with a piece of cardboard
3-was drilling through to top plate of a wall and the drill cought a nail, spun around and knocked me in the jaw wich coused me to fly off of the 4th step of a six foot ladder
4-cought my thumb in a reciprocating saw/sawzall(where the blade meets the saw)
5-was driving stakes in the ground with a 5 pound slege and missed the stake
.....and thats why I worked my way up to foreman. No physical work= no more pain :P

boxcutter, over 2 months ago.. dam bitchy manager was telling me to do SOMEONE ELSES work when i had 10 minutes left of my shift. cut the boxes to quick, went through my apron, my good pants, and unfourtunatly 2mm of skin/flesh

http://www.geocities.com/taksmusic/picture030.jpg

in comment to hotrex- it didn't hurt of bleed at first, but by the time i walked to the first aid kit (no one was around) 100ft away, my whole leg was covered in blood, and i used like 4 paper towels trying to at least clean up before applying 4 bandaids and some duct tape O0

Ouch ;)
I got a small piece of steel lodged in my eyeball and needed to go have it removed at the hospital. It ended up starting to rust in there they told me.
Then after that I dropped a landing gear leg to a trailer on my finger (they weigh a good 50 lbs) and it just exploded the fingertip. I should have been wearing gloves but wasn't. I looked at where my finger print "should" have been and it was folded over, blood going everywhere... I'm a little embarrased to say it, but it hurt so bad I passed out :-\ I hate smashing fingers.

Re: work injurys?

dont ask how i did it, but i had a car dropped on my dam foot. i was under the hood as my buddy lowered it, with my foot under the tire. (he didn't know my foot was under the tire) luckly, i was moving my toes (it was cold out) and just so happened my toes were currled up and missed them all.
lesson learned...
i bought some steal toes.

edit:
a long time ago, i had to have metal shavings scraped out of my eye. dam did that ---- suck.
lesson learned:
a $6 pair of napa safty glasses are the best thing ever invented. not the goofy dollar store looking ones, but the clear ones that wrap around your eyes. i like them.

Yeah fun huh Frank? They put your head in that vice thing so you can't pull away and all you see is them coming straight at your eyeball with swabs and other things. The lights they use are cool though :D

When I lived in AZ I was hit by a Pontiac while riding a mountain bike, fucked me up bad.

Results:

Road rash over my arms, back, shoulders, legs, and face
Concussion
Serious egg sized swell on one side of my head
Nerve damage around my face and hands, and shoulders
Chunks of rock and ashpalt forced into my skin, was fun taking it out :(
Blown out knee, not repairable
Arthritis in my knees
Tendonitis/"Burcitis" in my shoulders
3 months of waking up at 5am every morning with an insanely painful charlie horse in my left calf, which then made it so i couldnt walk right for days on end.
Lots of drinking and getting laid for the first time.

Also, i once cut my hand at the like "heel" of it almost to the bone, huge scar left in memory

Back when I got out of High School I went right to work doing Concrete foundations/retaining walls...non union.

I have been.....
Dropped 12ft from a crane (was a dumbass and holding on to the hook/operater didnt see me, and lifted the load and me with it so I had to jump ::))

Fallen a number of times off the scaffold
Have about a dozen scars all over from 16d nails
2 2" scars on my arm are the largest where a 60lb form panel with two 16's in the end fell on my arm and tore out a nice size 16d sized chunk

had a chunk removed from my mid thigh by the same thing above...nail imbedded 3/4 the way into my thigh then tore out a second later as the panel fell

had a few panels dropped on my head w/o a brain bucket.....all 60lb plus 1-1/8" plywood
had a stack of 20-30 panels roll over my middle finger and ring finger on my right hand (tore the skin off....nice scar from that)

Stepped on all sorts of nails......

I also grew up on a horse farm....and have been......
bitten on the left ring finger hard enough to remove the end and chip bone and remove the nail.

kicked full on in the right front side of my pelvis (almost broke...may still be bone chips there).....

and all the rest maybe anouther dozen or more times kicked and bitten by varioous horses...and i never let a horse get away without a beating after the fact

Worst I've ever done was cut the very tip of my ring finger off on a table saw. Wasn't on the blade either. I was cleaning it, moved the guide, and it got caught between the guide and the groove. Fucker hurt.

I hate getting stitches. I've only gotten them once. Got lots of bad ass scars though.

Wow, sounds like me. ;)

My worst painful injury was stepping on a nail. That son of a bitch hurt. Stepped off a ladder right on that mother fucker. Right in front of the home owner and my boss and I'm just cussing and yelling like a mother fucker and my boss asks "Did it go in?". WTF would I be yelling and cussing and hopping around on one foot for if it didn't? :-\

Another time I was starting the generator and pulled the starter back and sliced my wrist open on the mirror frame on my old pile of ---- work truck. It wouldn't have happened if the mirror wasn't missing..... >:( ~10 stitches and alot of blood. Didn't hurt one bit. ???

I got a piece of lime from stucco mix in my eye. That burnt like hell for days. Looked like I had pink eye.

Re: work injurys?

Holy ----, if you count getting cut a work injury, I could write a book with the number of time that I have cut myself or taken out large chunks of flesh. Some injuries that where a little more serious though:

1) Walked out the back door of a new car dealership cause I was testing the range on a remote start, it was winter and they had not salted the lot and the back parking lot was a complete sheet of ice. I slipped, flew up in the air and came down on my head. Split open right above my right eye in a y shape. Took 5 stitches inside the cut and 13 outside to close it up.

2) I was pulling on a metal tab with a pair of needle nose pliers and they slipped off. Well, since I was pulling upwards and looking at was I was doing, I stabbed myself in the face right at the edge or my eye socket. I hit myself so hard that my vison went black in that eye and I thought I had stabbed my eye out, it hurt like hell, but it scared me even worst, I thought I was gonna be blind. No stitched, just a puncture wound.

3) Working on taking out window frames in concrete block, using a sledge hammer and other tools. While slinging the sledge, I felt a sharp pain in my wrist a few different times and it hurt pretty bad that night, the next day and for about a week before I saw a doctor....his response when he came back with the x-rays....yep, you broke your wrist, WTF!!! In a cast for 7 weeks, lol.

4) Drilling through a 16" thick beam with a LARGE drill and a 1.5" paddle bit, the bit got caught up and twisted my arm around really fast and hard, causing a very sharp pain. Couple weeks later, it still hurt and I decided a trip to the doctor was in order. results....torn cartilage, casted wrist for 6 weeks, physical therapy, blah blah blah. 9 months later, I somehow tore it again and was in a cast for another 7 weeks, PT, etc...it's not healing and I may end up having to have surgery on it soon.

5) I somehow tore the cartilage in my left wrist while I was still casted from the second tear in my right. I refused to let them put a cast on it because I had only been out of the other one for a week. That decision will probably come back to haunt me.

6) I have a herniated C7-T1 disc, that I am not sure what it's from, work, car accidents or some serious hits from high school football years ago, who knows.

7) My knees sound like creaky door hinges because my knee caps don't track properly and I have funky grooves gouged into the cartilage that lines the back of the kneecap. All the kneeling down on concrete makes it worse and sooner or later, they are gonna have to go in and "grind" them smooth again, I am sooooo looking forward to that :o

8 ) Oh yea, I was putting a screw in something once, the drill slipped on the screw head and the driver tip went between my thumbnail and the skin of my thumb coming out the backside with a nice bloody + mark, that felt real good.

Ok, I will stop here, my wrists hurt from typing, lol, but I could probably go on for a while. ::)

i was sitting the in the wheel well of my car while doing the upper balljoin, my feet were under the car, the car fell off the jack and i was pinned under there, I was more scared then hurt cause i thought i'd never be able to walk again, i just kinda sprained my feet, thats all, i was walking good the next day. I can still remember the sound of the car slamming down on the ground.

Re: work injurys?

I always cut my hands working on my car and doing construction work. I had some pretty good cuts working at the steak house, quite a few times I would spend 30 minutes sharpening a knife then just cut the ---- out of myself with it because I was used to pushing really hard with a dull knife and being able to flip the knife and not worry which end I caught. good news is, in 4 years I'll have a nice desk job and I'll only get injured from working on and crashing my car and other vehicles.

Re: work injurys?

i was drilling out a screw head that was stripped on my brake rotor. well i musta been putting to much force on the drill gun because the bit broke and i ended up drilling into the lower part of my thumb. so when i was lookin at the cut and was feeling it, somethin didnt look/feel right... ended up goin to the hospital and they said i had takkin some good chunks out of my bone, so they had to take the peices out with tweezers. it felt pretty good :( i still have the brokin drill bit in my tool box, a little omen ;)

i have done a lot of other ---- to my left hand. almost cut my finger off(8 stiches), lost a finger nail(skatebaord accident), and took a chunk out of the thumb(taking off header)
my left hand seems to take a lot of punishment :(
