I could understand that if you were talking that your speech would be fucked up, but getting teeth pulled should not affect your typing ability or your ability to spell. I had mine out and I could spell even better!! ::)

does that ---- hurt??how much does it usually cost to get them pulled.

Re:wisdom teeth

Um, i remember looking t the prices, and it was like 3-500 per tooth, and then a bunch of extra costs for evaluation, x-rays, and the little ---- that adds up, good thing ive got insurance, or i would have never hd it done. One of mine was 500, becasue it was completly sidways in my jaw, and required some extra work to get it all out.

My wisdom teeth were hurting like a mutha a few weeks ago, I thought i was gonna have to get them pulled, I'm good now but for $500 a piece I think some pliers and cotton balls are looking good.

Re:wisdom teeth

after insurance i think it still cost about 700 bucks. After a perk and some huge asprin pill, im feeling pretty decent. 20 perks = 8 for pain and the rest for fun. i had one of mine sticking into my jaw 2, thats one the hurts me the most. the other 3 are just kind of aggrevating. talking with this gauze ---- in my mouth makes me wana throw myself down the stairs tho.

Re:wisdom teeth

just a word of advice to everybody, I had my wisdom teeth pulled in November (left side, upper and lower) and the dentist didn't know what the ---- he was doing, it took him over 3 hours of me sitting in the chair. I went to see an oral surgeon after that for a second opinion, and he said the whole procedure should have taken no longer than 45 minutes for both. Even an accomplished oral surgeon should charge you less than $100 for a simple tooth pull, or $200 for a impacted tooth (where they have to drill it out by making a hole in your jaw like mine). This is because they have the right tools and they can get it done fast (time=money).

After my procedure it turns out the dentist had damaged the nerve in the jawbone that runs under the tooth, called the inferior alveolar nerve. This made my gums on the lower left side of my mouth completely numb and a square area from my lower lip to my chin on the left side of my mouth totally numb also. I bit my lip constantly and couldn't talk right. I have recovered about 80% of the feeling in these areas but I will probably never fully recover. Some people have it much worse; instead of numbness they have constant pain that never goes away. Moral of the story is: for regular dental work, dentists are fine. For tooth extractions, ASK FOR A REFERRAL TO AN ORAL SURGEON WHO KNOWS WHAT HE/SHE IS DOING. It probably won't cost much more (sometimes, like my case, it would cost less) because oral surgeons do this all day, every day and they can do it quickly and with more skill.

Also, if you're getting a tooth pulled, make sure you really NEED to (mine was elective :'()

EDIT:
oh yeah 200 posts, w00t

Re:wisdom teeth

nah, the prices are more then that, but it should be like 150 a tooth. 600 bucks for 40 minutes of work is some nice money..... but thats a fucked up story. mine took me like 40 minutes to get out all 4, and my guy was an oral surgeon. My buddy had his done, and they cut a nerve in his toungue. he went back into a surgery and they told him it was some scar tissue... but it wasnt cuz he still cant feel anything... id make a little lawsuit for some pain suffering ;)

Re:wisdom teeth

wtf did u do to have that ----? :-X

willahlborn 03-23-2004 03:09 PM

Re:wisdom teeth

No joke about the prices, the oral surgeon I went to had a state of the art office and for a simple tooth pull, nothing complicated, it was $79 including anesthesia. For an impacted tooth, he said he sets aside 25 minutes but it usually takes him 15. Less than $200. These guys charge, but if you get one that knows what he is doing, he can do 4 in 1 hour =$800. Maybe I just found an honest doc. He only charges $40 for a panorex (panaromic xray) and he did mine for free because I brought the xrays from the other dentist, but they sucked ass, so he just did another.

These prices are before insurance by the way.

EDIT:
about the lawsuit: thought about it, but since I am mostly recovered, there's a good chance I wouldn't get anything. The laws make it really tough to sue dentists. I read about some other cases though, where people had their lingual nerve severed or damaged by an anesthesia needle, and lost feeling in half or all of their tongue. People won judgements for millions of dollars ;D and some spouses even won "loss of consortium" lawsuits for several hundreds of thousands. LOL, loss of consortium... means hubby can't feel it when wifey slips him the tongue

Hey Will, have a good time working for your turbo parts. lol. You really could have cashed in. :-\ I'm waiting for my opertunity when that bus plows into my car or something,,,, I can't wait. hahaha

About the teeth, I'm 24 and haven't had them pulled. Is it law that you have to? Or did I slip by and I'll be ok? I kinda wanna do it now with all this pill talk, though. ;) I don't think I've been to the dentist since I was about 8. I'm a simpleton. If George Washington didn't need it, I don't need it. ;)

Believe me, checking with lawyers was one of the first things I did when I found out what happened... nobody wants to sue dentists. Couldn't find anybody to take my case. I guess malpractice lawsuits are very difficult to prove and lawyers don't want to invest the time in them for the probable payout. They want the hefty judgement; if all they get is the retainer it's not worth their time. Fuckers.

Re:wisdom teeth

---- I'm glad I'm Canadian!! I couldn't imagine paying prices like that for medical and dental care :-X I had three wisdom teeth pulled by a surgeon while I was in school so it was paid for by my mothers insurance. Now my sisters 4 came out after she was finished school and it cost her $600 for all four also done by a surgeon.
Mine never bothered me that much and when he took one of the teeth out it ripped part of the skin on the inside of my jaw. I was eating normal the next day and only had minor irratation because of not being use to them being gone...

its not a law that you have to. it depends, you should ask a dentist. the last time i went to the dentist he recommended i get them pulled because if i dont, the wisdom teeth could displace/totally ---- all of my other teeth up when they come in because there isnt enough room for them. as for george washington, the guy had wooden teeth, how the ---- can you compare yourself to him - unless of course you wanna be a platinum pimp blingin with the wood teeth ;D.

MikeJ-2009 03-23-2004 06:11 PM

yeah cus the teeth are abnormally big, and they take up most of the jaw bone. so if they where to take them out, there would be big gaping holes, and my jaw has a posibility of braking

---- the dentist. I think I;m done with them for a while. I have some cavities that need some work, but ---- that. I hate needles so bad and that numb feeling afterwards where it feels like you lips are gigantic and you can't tell if you're drooling or not. I'm keeping my wisdom teeth and the rest of them for that matter. I'll wait until it's life threatening until I get the removed. :-\

Re:wisdom teeth

To Dr. Boost: JB wled that biatch. I guess I'm lucky, I got nothing wrong with my teeth. I had my wisdom teeth pulled about a year ago. I woke up during surgery, and could hear them cracking my teeth :o. But I didn't feel ---- so I went back to sleep. I went home, and the first thing I did was wash my mom's truck. Then for dinner I ate chunky soup. The next day I was too hungry to eat just apple sauce, and what not, so I made myself a sandwich. The food burned a little, and kept on getting stuck. I even brushed my teeth the night after the surgery. Plus I still got all my pain killers the doc gave me ;).
