haha, thanks for the help guys, im gona try that extender thing, i dont care about security, all i live by is a bunch of old *** people that dont know how to use computers. so im good. but id just like to strengthen the signal so i can use theres until im not cheap and go get a wirless router... i need to get comcast... dsl isnt all that great.

if you want to steal a signal from someone, the buy a external usb wifi adapter, get a large kitchen bowl and line it with tin foil, then suspend the wifi adapter in the middle of the bowl , then tape the bowl to the window.

There are tools that you can use with certain networking cards to record a bunch of network traffic and "figure out" the key, but AFAIK it only works on 802.11b networks, and most people now use g or n.
It IS useful when someone leaves their network unlocked. I'll enable mac filtering, add their computers and mine, change the routers ip to something funky, and change the password. If things go welll they'll never ---- with it, and if they try to they'll give up when they can't get to the settings. Worst case they'll reset and probably leave it open again.
