Re: wireless help for the ubuntu OS
I am using Belkin wireless pre-n card. This is my only way to connect to the internet (special thanks to the neighbors) I guess I am just confused on what the hell to do with the ndiswrapper and the drivers ( how to make them jive)
|
Re: wireless help for the ubuntu OS
bad info, hold on was in the middle of a game and thought you wrote broadcom.
whats going on with the system right now? https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Wi...er/Ndiswrapper should help, if you already haven't found it. |
Re: wireless help for the ubuntu OS
dude, I have the ndiswrapper 1.39 and my drivers i know it sounds stupid but how in the ---- do i extract them? I gather it has something to do with the terminal so many codes... I went to the network connection it just says Modem connection " this interface is not configured"
|
Re: wireless help for the ubuntu OS
what you do with them depends on what kind of files they are.
if they're just the plain files on the website it should be something like sudo dpkg -i /directory/ndiswrapper-utills-1.39*.deb when you move the files to your desktop, or home directory,. the "/directory" part will more than likely look like "/home/yourustername/ndiswrapper etc." It's all on that link. the sudo command is to giver you temp super user powers so you have permission to edit system files the dpkg is the debian package command, it installs and removes .deb files the -i is telling it to install the directory/file is telling it what to install and the *deb is telling it to install it as a debian file. The information is on that page, dont get to frustrated at it, its aggravating for about a week until you learn it, then you understand why it is like it is. |
Re: wireless help for the ubuntu OS

Re: wireless help for the ubuntu OS

Re: wireless help for the ubuntu OS
this is the error I got .... bash: tail/var/log/messages: No such file or directory
|
Re: wireless help for the ubuntu OS
there's a space in between tail and /var. You can copy and paste commands in terminal if you want, it's a little faster :)

Re: wireless help for the ubuntu OS
hey thanks for your help....the problem with my old computer is that its pci slots are fried every time i stick the wifi card in it it makes a long beep so i kept testing the other slots and found one that did not beep that is the one i have been fornicating with all day. At first i thought it was the card but it turns out to be the pci slot itself Ill just get a new motherboard for it since this one was going on 5 years old.
My stinkpad has a three gig hd and even shittier ram i believe 128mb do you think i can run ubuntu on my laptop? currently i am running xp home on it. |
