Wire taps o my!!

Clinton Claimed Authority to Order No-Warrant Searches In a little-remembered debate from 1994, the Clinton administration argued that the president has "inherent authority" to order physical searches — including break-ins at the homes of U.S. citizens — for foreign intelligence purposes without any warrant or permission from any outside body. The debate over warrantless searches came up after the case of CIA spy Aldrich Ames. Authorities had searched Ames's house without a warrant, and the Justice Department feared that Ames's lawyers would challenge the search in court. Meanwhile, Congress began discussing a measure under which the authorization for break-ins would be handled like the authorization for wiretaps, that is, by the FISA court. In her testimony, Gorelick signaled that the administration would go along a congressional decision to place such searches under the court — if, as she testified, it "does not restrict the president's ability to collect foreign intelligence necessary for the national security." In the end, Congress placed the searches under the FISA court, but the Clinton administration did not back down from its contention that the president had the authority to act when necessary. |

In 1997, the Justice Department received 749 requests for wire taps. It approved 748. Which one did they deny? You guessed it, the one concerning the theft of nuclear secrets and Wen Ho Lee. Read this article to find out why the denial stinks to high heaven of a coverup. |

Also, i read and heard today that the big NSA wiretap NON-scandal, was only dealing with forgein communication WITH american citizens in the US.

Yet again a "give Bush the death penalty" subject has been disproven to be anything radical. Although this subject never came up on HMT that I recall, Johnny Bliss is out to let you in on the truth so when your tree hugging liberal scumbag friends start getting crazy with the talking points, you're armed with the truth.
Johnny Bliss, you're a great American. :6 |
Re: Wire taps o my!!

Clinton Claimed Authority to Order No-Warrant Searches Clinton says he didn't use warrantless wiretaps Former President Clinton said Thursday that he never ordered wiretaps of American citizens without obtaining a court order, as President Bush has acknowledged he has done. Clinton, in an interview broadcast Thursday on the ABC News program ''Nightline,'' said his administration either received court approval before authorizing a wiretap or went to court within three days after to get permission, as required by law. ''We either went there and asked for the approval or, if there was an emergency and we had to do it beforehand, then we filed within three days afterward and gave them a chance to second guess it,'' Clinton told ABC.

that is why this so-called scandal is going away... After The New York Times broke the story in December, President Bush admitted he authorized the National Security Agency to listen in on domestic phone calls without warrants previously needed also http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/HL0601/S00038.htm The National Security Agency, the top-secret spy shop that has been secretly eavesdropping on Americans under a plan authorized by President Bush four years ago, destroyed the names of thousands of Americans and US companies it collected on its own volition following 9/11 By law, the NSA cannot spy on a US citizen, an immigrant lawfully admitted to this country for permanent residence, or a US corporation. But, with the permission of a special court, it can target foreigners inside the United States, including diplomats. http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/HL0601/S00047.htm A clandestine National Security Agency spy program code-named Echelon was likely responsible for tapping into the emails, telephone calls and facsimiles of thousands of average American citizens over the past four years in its effort to identify people suspected of communicating with al-Qaeda terrorists http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/HL0601/S00059.htm The decision by the Bush Administration to go after the New York Times for exposing a portion of their spying- the unauthorized NSA spying on calls to Afghanistan- sets up the central struggle for America’s soul. Truthfully, no one is much alarmed by monitoring connections with Afghanistan or scanning US mosques for radiation; both have a legitimate national security justification. but wait. the article isnt done. let me finish reading.. But the FBI is spying on 30,000 people a year- according to the Washington Post, permitted by warrantless so-called national security letters (NSLs) under Section 505 of the Patriot Act, and now it turns out the Pentagon, CIA, and NSA have all also been engaged in illegitimate and unjustified spying on Americans, including harmless peace groups and all US-foreign e-mail. In October, Bush expanded access to those files by "state, local and tribal" governments and "appropriate private sector entities", whereas John Ashcroft had canceled the 6 month destruction of the records of innocents- now they are kept forever. The Pentagon, especially, appears unable to distinguish between legitimate protest and possible threat. As warriors, they are trained to attack preemptively, which is why there are so many prohibitions against the military operating inside America. Given that there were only 300 NSL’s before 9-11, there's no way there are 30,000 legitimate terrorism suspects a year in America - there probably aren't even 3000. People cognizant of the depths of this administration’s vindictiveness understand this is a Bush Enemies List, targeting those who dare to criticize the crimes of this arrogant imperious administration oh, and johnny. that is why this so-called scandal is going away... if all there doing is tapping phone calls from people who call to or receive calls from afganistan and iraq.. and other known terrorist countries.. then more power to them.. but if there evesdropping on whoever they feel like. using unbacked tips with no evidence.. where no judge would approve of that wiretap.. then the end does not justify those means. what about the NSA destroying the records? is that heresay too? why would they destroy them if they thought what theyre doing is legal. and they destroyed them against the wishes of the cia and the fbi.. like powell said.. bush could have done it legally. |

Here's the bottom line on the whole subject. If you call iraq or any other country that we don't like, you could be recorded. Unless your talking about blowing some ---- up (like bukakees dad) nobody is going to be affected by it. These days, you have to be pro-active instead of re-active.
Since the taps are only on incoming and outgoing international calls, what the ---- does anyone have to worry about when calling thier freind down the street? It would be out of line for them to tap that call without cause, but if they didn't get a warrant and you said you murdered Mrs. Jones, they can't use that against you in court anyway. Seems like the only thing left is the government looking out for our best interests against terrorism, and lefty socialists looking for another reason to hate the government. |
Re: Wire taps o my!!

It's ironic too, that the New York Times knew about this story and was asked by the White House to keep it quiet. If they're not doing anything wrong and working within the confines of the law, what's the problem? So I'm going to skip the "conspiracy theory" bullshit, not trouble you to think about possible abuses or lack of oversight and ask flat out: WHY DOES BUSH NEED TO GIVE AN EXECUTIVE ORDER FOR WIRE-TAPPING WHEN THEY'RE ALLOWED TO DO IT ANYWAY? Part of the whole political process when it comes to Democracy is checks and balances and the Bush Admin. is slowly chipping that away. You have to wonder where this is going. I'm sure Stevemode and Johnny will berate me about how it's all a conspiracy, that I hate the U.S. and blah, blah, blah.... Saying that Lefty Socialists hate this country is a cop out that lets you avoid discussing these issues in any civilized manner. You can label someone a nut and that's the end of it. I don't hate this country, but it seems like people in power, without the proper oversight, have a tendency to abuse their power. Bush can listen to all the calls he wants, but what he also wants is the power to do so without any real solid rules or oversight, and that's what the real issue is. |
Re: Wire taps o my!!
And Johnny... I'm so impressed at your ability to cut and paste articles to show everyone how smart you are.
Good job! :y |
Re: Wire taps o my!!
you want to know why the president thinks he needs a super secret wire tap ability is because the media, and the congress in attempts to bring attenton to themselves. let this information out. and the terrorists change their ways, so the information resource is no longer there. this is documented time and time again.
the CIA was listening to bin laden's cell phone... until the media reported it... and he stopped using it. the CIA was listening to bin laden's satellite phone... until the media reported it... and he stopped using it. along with al qaeda email, phone, etc... when the media reports the US is gaining information this way... the terrorists or enemy stops using that method. |
