Default Why do so many idiots think big turbo = not "streetable"???

Does anyone understand something I don't that makes a large turbo not "streetable"?

I understand HUGE cams not being streetable, but come on.....big turbos?

Is it because they want to hear cool wooosh noises pulling out of the McDonald's parking lot?

I guess my personal opinion is that if it doesn't fall out of boost between shifts, it's not too big.

What do you guys think?

oh, and....here ya go

Maybe they associate big turbos with big (uncontrollable) power?

This is really all that I can think of that would remotely make sense...

And that's a great clip! I appreciate you gracing my thread with it

I love how she has to look down and make sure that he's humping her leg, and THEN run.

Here is the reason...big turbos are usually meant to be run at higher pressures than most stock blocks can handle. Basicly when selecting a turbo for your build you want to keep your cfm/pressure level in the center island on a compressor map where it gives you the highest effciency rating. If you look at a compressor map from a large turbo (large t3/to4e type and up) you'll notice that peak efficiency isn't down low at the under 10psi level, it's usually up more towards the 16+ range. This is fine if you have a fully built motor capable of handling that cfm and pressure level, but for stock motors you're just asking for it. Running lower than the efficiency island results in hot air being forced into your engine, which can lead to detonation and melting/breaking pistons from high cylinder temps. That's why it's best to pick the smallest turbo that meets your hp goal at peak efficiency and use that. Not only do you usually have better respnose time, but a properly matched setup is just so much more fun to drive and easier to tune.
