Why do DSM's suck?

Re: Why do DSM's suck?
Yes it still has no idle control even though I wasted $130 on a new OEM IAC.
Thankfully the car has an amazingly stable idle and I can get away with just setting the base idle screw where I want it and it stays with no surging. I have it set at 950rpm so that under heavy alternator load (lights, radio, etc) it only drops to 850rpm. I don't have AC so that isn't a problem. I have to readjust it for summer and winter temps, but that's about it.

Re: Why do DSM's suck?
Mine started with just a little surge every now and then. Then it started doing it all the time. Before it is warmed up it just feels really sluggish like it's being flooded. Then when it warms up it starts surging bad. It revs from -100rpm to 2500. So the port on the ECU that accepts the IAC signal is burnt out? Any way to fix this other than another ECU?

Re: Why do DSM's suck?
I THINK the drivers are replaceable. I thought I remember hearing that somewhere. Would it be worth the time and money? Probably not. I'd go ECU hunting in the junkyard if I was you.
Are you sure it's the ECU and not the IAC itself? Surge is usually an early sign of the IAC shitting the bed. The problem is that people let it go and the way the IAC circut works on these cars if the IAC is broken and left connected, it will then burn out the ECU (thumbs up again Mitsu!). Normally if you're surging it's because the ECU can't properly control the failing IAC, but nonetheless can still control it and keeps over shooting the target idle. When the ECU drivers fail it normally doesn't surge because the ECU can't move the IAC at all, it simply sits in one spot, be that too high of an idle or too low. So it might not be too late to replace it and save the ECU.

Re: Why do DSM's suck?
I already replaced the IAC, but it still does it. I don't know much about the Mitsu and it cost to much to just guess and start replacing crap. When it first started it was just every now and then and I thought it was the AC just bogging it down. Then all of a sudden it just started doing it all the time.

And best of all, my engine sensors die at random and my ECU's IAC drivers fried because it's making too much power.
Prove it. And, yes, they do.

Re: Why do DSM's suck?
no hondas have ever had problems idling either, or burning sensors
all cars have problems. hondas have less because they make 90hp
every honda ive owned has had sensors go bad, all sorts of little stuff go wrong, fan motors, heater cores, power windows, fuel pumps, sun roofs, axel seals, etc...
