I will be getting my Associate Degree in Network Technology at the end this fall ( finally after slacking too much) and I aslo worked at the college as a part-time computer tech which hopefully will give me enough experience to put on my resume to help me get moving in my career.

It's a pretty good setup and you learn a lot more than just general information. Plus you get valueable experience on the job. Pretty much the only thing you really have to hope for is that the tech you get stuck with will actually want to teach you something instead of just be pissed you got stuck with him.
If you're serious about becoming a tech I'd strongly recommend going to a local dealer and ask them about any programs like that. This was at a Ford dealership, I'm not sure quite what the program is called, but the dealership loves it because they basically get an extra body for all the grunt work, and it doesn't cost them a dime. So they're down with it, plus they get to see you in an actual work environment, so if you impress them during your 6-months there, when you get out of the school they may hire you straight away.
This is very good advice if anyone is serious about being a mechanic.

After barely graduating high school I knew I definatly wouldnt be going to college. I definatly felt a bit out of place since everyone in my family has had a college education. I knew what I wanted to do, even though I'm not working on a "great" car line.. (shitty korean cars) and may not make tons of money, but the people I work with and 225 days off a year make it all worth it. I can honestly say I love what I do and have no regrets.

Props to the man above.

COLLEGE IS OVERRATED if you go there and don't do anything with what you learn / pay for.

I graduated from Univ of GA in 3 yrs...now a med school student. Bachelors in Risk Mgmt and Insurance (mix of finance and accounting).

85% of people in college are your average joes...they only know what they are told...they will NEVER goto sites like this, or be a DIY / self thinker.

Thus, 15% actually get something out of college...strongly pursue their careers / majors. 85% do whatever they need to make money and have a "normal" life.

so, 85% of people in college are a waste of space in my opinion

but, since "college degree" = "must be smart or competant" in the working world...everyone thinks they have to go.

Went to UTI in Chicago for 3 months. They pretty much told us we'd all be changing oil the first 6 months of working in a dealership for like 7.00/hour I was living with a bunch of immature pot smokers in an apartment.. I decided it wasn't for me.. came back to my hometown and got a job working construction for 35k/year w/ full benifiets.. I get to work with some cool guys that arent like all "business" allthe time.. not all stuck up like your average construction boss.. we just go with the flow and get the jobs done right.. i'm happy
