Whitey's Nitrous Install.

Well its been a while since I did a writeup on anything so here we go. I had some time and I wanted to finish my nitrous setup since the track is opening soon. I wanted to mount my gauge, switches and I also needed a momentary button.

This is what I started with:

http://www.hmt-tv.com/hmt/matt/Mustang/DSC00790.JPG

The first thing I wanted was that the light to go on when I opened up the cover. I thought it would be gay to tie in the lighting to my gauge lights becuase than at night you would see my ash tray glowing. :-\ So I used a rocker switch from radio shack and had it activate when the lid was opened. Here's the switch in the closed/on position:

http://www.hmt-tv.com/hmt/matt/Mustang/DSC00795.JPG

When its open/off
http://www.hmt-tv.com/hmt/matt/Mustang/DSC00796.JPG

Since I don't have slicks and 4:10's spraying in first and second would be a waste. I don't like window switches since IMO they have too many problems so I wanted a momentary button. I drilled and resesed my stock shift knob:

http://www.hmt-tv.com/hmt/matt/Mustang/DSC00799.JPG

Drilling this thing was a pain in the ass, especially with the 2 small holes to run the wiring through. I definitely thought I would screw up my shift knob:

http://www.hmt-tv.com/hmt/matt/Mustang/DSC00802.JPG

Didn't turn out too bad. I wish I could get rib of the H pattern so I could blend it in a little better but I don't think it turned out too bad:

http://www.hmt-tv.com/hmt/matt/Mustang/DSC00811.JPG

As for the gauge and switches I made a templet and cut out a piece of aluminum:

http://www.hmt-tv.com/hmt/matt/Mustang/DSC00793.JPG

Test fit:

http://www.hmt-tv.com/hmt/matt/Mustang/DSC00805.JPG

And for the final touch a constant reminder of the golden nitrous analogy; "Nitrous is like the hot chick with STD's, don't hit it unless you can deal with the consequences." ;)

Final result:

Nice and stealthy:

Here's the bottles, too bad I'm probably trading one of them for a turbo:

http://www.hmt-tv.com/hmt/matt/Mustang/DSC00556.JPG

Under the hood is nothing special but its still not done yet. I'm going to try and mount everything so you can't see it that way tech can't bust my balls. But I'm still waiting on some 4an lines.

Let me know what you think. :6

Yeah but my license plate is all bent up and the car looks like ---- without it. And besides how often do you read license plate frames?

Was a direct port: http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1553371 ;)

I'm using the solenoids and everything off my old direct port and now its just a single fogger on the Mustang. Thats why I'm waiting on some lines to finish it.

I like how simple and clean the finished product turned out. For a super stealthy look you should paint or use a permanent marker to make the button on your shifter black

Clean and smooth. I LOVE it. :y The quote is pretty funny too. LOL. The picture behind it is GREAT!!! I LOVE the idea. Looks good. The shifter isn't bad just; I KNOW I'd be hitting that on accident and what not. Kind of gay to me to have it in. Looks ricer to me. :-\ To each their own. :y

He has to arm the system before the button on the shift knob will do anything.

I guarantee you have a scrap metal yard around you. Go there and buy scrap. Since they sell it by the pound you can get it for dirt cheap. I bought a 2x7ft piece of mirrored polished aluminum for like $10.00 It even had the blue protectve stuff on the polished side.

Yeah but the paint would eventually come off and look like ----. Since its a Mustang its never going to be a sleeper since everyone assumes a loud Mustang is fast. I just wanted something nice. Like I've always said having a nice clean interior is one of my pet peeves.

I just used my portaband and drill press. I did spend some time shaping it with my grinder and file. I was going to use really thin steel but I'm glad I didn't since aluminum is so nice to work with. The piece I used is actually diamond plate, I had to grind the diamonds off the other side. :8

With the way I shift I'm not going to hit it accidentally. And even so I took it into consideration. Here's the wiring diagram:

http://www.hmt-tv.com/hmt/matt/Mustang/DSC00797.JPG

Its tough to see but you need to first arm the system with the toggle switch, than it has a WOT switch so it won't spray part throttle and than the push button. So its a pretty safe system. I also don't understand what you think is ricey. :-\

Thanks for the compliments guys. :y

Re: Whitey's Nitrous Install.

Thanks Whitey and Jon, I see now. Still, (for me atleast) the button would be hard to control if choosen that route vs. the WOT way. I apologize for the rice comment, but my reasoning: The automatic stick shifters with the button on top, and the fact that it's open and kind of like the F&F where you hit the button to spray rather than it being WOT instead. It's clean and I agree to mold it in would be ALOT cleaner and get rid of the shift pattern, but just looks like a fighter pilot joystick. :-\ No doubt its done well and it IS your car and not mine so I'm glad you like it. :y What's the purpose to partial spray? So it won't hit all at once? Buddy's is hooked up to V-TAK not sure if it has to be WOT or not.

EDIT: 1) Toggle arms it 2) WOT arms it again 3) Push button sprays it Correct?

I don't build show cars, the button isn't there to look cool, if you think its ricey or gay more power to you I don't care. Nowadays everything is considered rice anyway. The button is there becuase with 4:10's and nitrous there will be no traction is 1st and 2nd so its the best way to control the spray without a $500 nitrous controller. Its there for a purpose

Looks great. That is a great way to hook it up nice and stealthy.

Re: Whitey's Nitrous Install.

what does no traction in 1st or 2nd have to do with button placement?

samson 03-09-2006 06:09 PM

Re: Whitey's Nitrous Install.

Word. I understand thank you. The shifter is an EXCELLENT spot for it, just isn't MY first choice and to be honest it is VERY functional there. Don't have to go from shifting to pushing buttons to shifting and stuff.

I won't be spraying it in first or probably halfway through second so the button is so I can manually activate it when I want.

i want to something similar to that if i ever go nitrous. i really don't care for the kits that only use a WOT switch. i would just like to have more control over when it sprays.

I love the set-up idea, but like Samson, I don't think it looks right. The button is kind of sticking out, and looks out of place.
