Re: where can i get a valve spring compressor for dual cam honda heads...
i have a snap on/blue point one, ive done like 5 heads 4 b series and 1 dsm it took me under an hr to do all new valve springs and retainers, they work fine when you can set them up right, also i put a rag under the cly im using. havent used myn in a couple months but deff worth the money, u can do it by yourself no effort. its the one one ive seen work that well with a dohc head. might sell it since i dont use it anymore :l

The copy of the snap on units comes with fittings for compressed air into the cylinders has well. I have alwyas pulled the head to do valve springs. But with the compressed air and the copy snap on unit you should be sold. Make sure to cover up any holes etc has a keeper is bound to fall into something its not. Also be very careful has keepers are a bitch to keep track off. A magnetic tray will be a nice tool to have while doing the job has well.

rawr that's pretty much what i was gonna make. i saw someone post something simallar to that on h-t. complex can you explain how the steering wheel puller works? steering wheel pullers have long slots (on the 2-bolt style, not so much on the 3) thatll let you line up your bolts. you should know how a steering wheel puller works, so i don't need to explain how to set it up, i hope. you cut windows into the socket so you can use needlenose (not fingers) to put in/take out the retainers. when you tighten in the main puller bolt, it acts like a spring compressor, pushing the socket down on the retainer, letting your clips come loose. might have to give the valvestem a slight tap to break it free so they dont fly loose and go all over. lets you do the work on the head while its in the car. |
Re: where can i get a valve spring compressor for dual cam honda heads...
alright i'm in the process of doing it. i'm half way done.
i'm using a 15mm socket and a hammer to get them off. using the zip ties to compress the springs and cutting the zipties off. my wife is helping me get the keepers back in cause i have sausage fingers. so far so good... :l

briggs and stratton keepers are like $.90 and look to be the same size. it's not a rocket science to find one thatll fit
