whats up with ghetto-d???
 

hey everyone, i didnt want to do this but after giving ghetto-d(albert) plenty of time/chances to get ahold of me i had no choice... i got in contact with albert on hmt we talked a few times and we worked out an agreement for him to help me with my turbo kit and make the piping. well the piping turned out good ive had a few problems with the work that he did(like making the return line to long, causing alot of oil build up in the turbo) and he also misinformed me about a few things(such as: the o2 wire was sitting on the manifold, so i asked him if that was safe( i told him that i thought it would melt) and he said "no that ---- wont melt because the wire is made for high temp" he even said that you would need a special kind of wire cutter to cut it, well i listened to him and i was wrong for doing so because that ---- melted. But after all that i still didnt have a problem, we did the install in mid dec and due to some problems we didnt get everything done that day so we agreed that i would come back up to his house(keep in mind im in san diego and he is up by anaheim) for him to install the oil gauge, and intercooler(he had to mod. the ends for the intercooler to work) also he told me to buy a turbo muffler and he would put that on(he didnt do that either). well he said "come back next weekend and ill have the intercooler done" i came back up(now this is about a wek into jan) he still didnt have it done so he even offered to mail it done to me by the next weekend. after waiting another week i started to p.m. him on hmt (i told him that i needed the intercooler by the following week) no reply so i called his cell phone(last thursday) and asked if he would just mail the intercooler down to me and i would pay the cost of shipping.... i could tell he didnt want to do that... he then offered to meet me half way(just north of the s.d. county line) i waited all day still didnt hear from him so sunday i sent him another p.m. (no response) and now i called his cell and he doesnt have voice mail(for me to leave a message) and he doesnt answer. so i feel i have been more than cool about all the delays, but now this is getting a little strange.. the reason i say strange is because i allready payed him( and when i gave him the money he even said that it was more than he expected. (i have a wittness)) i thought he was paid well considering: he said "pay me what you think my time is worth" i know albert knows alot of you guys on hmt so im asking for help.... i need a way to get ahold of him(besides drivng over 100 miles each way) of is someone can relay this to him. thanks for any help---steve

I know Steve, he is a honest and helpful person. Sucks to see guys like this get taken advantage of. Steve I'll be calling you in a week or so when I'm ready to get on my tubo stuff. Let me know when you're ready to pop in that Si tranny! ;)

I bought some ---- from him (intercooler/boost gauge) and was actually kind of impressed how fast he moved in shipping the stuff, He's a good guy to deal with....

And I dont mean to flame you or anything, but you ask a guy for an install that is a regular to a site called "Homemadeturbo", where half the posts are porn and the other half involve the joys of blowing out ringlands. N

What in God's Green Earth made you think someone here would give you a full waranteed install job, without a shop, or proper credentials? Its Called Homemadeturbo for a reason, its a DIY site, its not "Contractinstallturbo.com". Nor is it "Babysitterturbo.com".....

look speedy jay im not complaining about work done or wanting a warranty i said my issue is that he will not give me my intercooler that i paid for and now he wont answer my calls or emails, i never said anything about a warranty im just tryin to find some one who is in contact with him to relay a message to him so i dont have to drive 200 miles just for him not to be home......again THIS IS ABOUT AN INTERCOOLER THAT I PAYED FOR, THAT HE HAS YET TO GIVE ME

I just got my manifold from him today. Took him awhile but that was because the flanges took forever to get to him. He takes awhile to answer his pm's I've noticed. Well from my expierence dealing with him, he came off as a good guy. Hope it gets resolved soon.

I've bought from him with no problems. He hooked a homie up.

I haven't seen him posting much so I would imagine he is very busy with something at the moment. I'm not saying that's a valid excuse or that he isn't doing something wrong, I'm just saying.....

There is no excuse for him not doing what he says, but from the last couple months, I know he has a new baby, and was looking for a new place to live. It seems these things are probably still what's causing this delay.
That's really gotta be what's going on. Albert has always been the first guy to offer anything to any of us So Cal'ers, and he probably got in over his head with projects/work/family.
I told him I was going to send him an a/c compressor for him to mock up manifolds with. I told him that 3 weeks ago, and I still haven't gotten around to sending it (it was free :P) but he hasn't even called me to ask where it is, so something must be going on.
I might be going down there this weekend for the drag meet. If I do I'll kick him in the "wevos" for you. ;)

Word. I needed an EG radiator and he gave me one for the cost of shipping. I thought that was pretty cool of him.

I have an A/C compressor I can bring with me this weekend if he still needs it(You reading this Albert?). Both of you better be there this weekend. >:(

hey thanks for the replies , albert seems like a cool guy never had a problem and i do like the work. but i would understand if he would just reply to my calls/pm's. I paid him in mid dec and it's a month later and i still dont have a intercooler, ---- i even made more plans for him to work on my car. and thanks for all the helpfull coments, because i wanna be clear i didnt even want to go "public" with this im not tryin to talk bad about him or his work, i just need a way to get in contact with. and to stealthmode and dr.boost ive dealt with both of you guys(both very helpfull) could you just relay the message if you go to the so cal track day???? thanks again----steve

albert is definitley a cool guy, I wouldn;t worry about him ripping you. I know he has a lot of things going on, especially since he has a little boy that just popped out his momma not too long ago.

I have total confidence in albert, but albert mang you gotta speed it up :P

j/k ;) I'm sure he will take care of you. He's a long time HMT member and is well known in the Socal HMT scene. Just like everyone sometimes we get caught up with a bunch of ---- to do at once. I wouldnt worry to much about it =)

Ill reiterate what every onle has said.Hes a good guy and is realy good at keeping his word,but it seems that he's gotten in over his head.Thats not an excuse if he has your stuff but Im not living his life so I cant judge him. :-\

well i've noticed ghetto-d was on hmt at about 9:30 this morning but yet he still doesnt reply to im's, e-mails, or phone calls..... can any of the so-cal'ers hook me up with another number to reach before i have to drive up there?? im tryin to be cool about this, but this aint cool (he's postin on here but avoiding me)

I havent modded the Intercooler because I still have half a tank of C02/Argon and i Need 100% argon to weld that aluminum and im not gonna empty it and pay 2-3 times as much for special gas and wire just to weld 1 thing.. so thats why it hasnt been done

Here is the list of things I did...

*went out and got him all the mandrel bends
*welded his t25 to the HF manifold
*made him a downpipe
*made him all the intercooler piping
*tried to fix his busted BOV (installed another on a later date)
*installed an FMU (chipped his ECU and installed injectors on a later date)
*installed his boost gauge
*INstalled his oil lines (and used my bro's extra oil line cause the block fitting wouldnt fit the ZC)
*hacked his crossmember so the oil line and DP would clear
*Spent the better half of a sunday looking for a new radiator cause his blew up for no reason.
*Also I bought an Audi intercooler cause his would not fit

He paid me 340 to build and install his kit, and wanted it done in 1 day cause he would not leave the car overnight. The radiator blew up that night before he left, and i drove him all the way to sandiego (like 100miles) The next day I hit the junkyard to find a radiator and intercooler(audi 9000) and i picked both up for $87 out of my own pocket.

So pretty much i spent like 3 days working on this for 340 minus whatever i spent on parts

The way i see it... "time is money" and i dont have very much of both... but i said i would do something and i tried to do it in the short amount of time i had

i dont think he called you out, i think he did a pretty dam good job about being humble and trying to figure out a way to contact you.

its not his fault you didnt pay your bills and hes been unable to reach you. Did you tell him about the argon situation?

i told him up front i charge 100 for the IC piping, 100 for the downpipe. And then to pay me whatever he thought my time was worth to install it.

So do the math:

100(IC Piping)
+100(Downpipe)
+60(Radiator)
+25(Intercooler (Unmoded)
+30(for extra oil lines)
=315 (for parts)

If you do the math you can see I only realistically made 25 bucks out of installing this kit and spent about 3 days of my life...

damn albert, what you've done, shines a whole new perspective on this situation. You did all that for 340!? Wait I'm sorry I mean $253.oo, and then you gotta still minus the piping materials. That's a while lotta work. That's why ghetto d is my welder choice ;)

albert i wasnt calling you out:

i tried many times to contact you (many pm's on hmt, i've sent e-mails, and i've called your cell phone. and after about 2 weeks of no communication i posted in the g.d. forum so someone could get ahold of you and let you know that im trying to get into contact with you). On top of all of that you've posted a reply but still havent called me. Plus you still have not finished the intercooler(when in dec. you sent me a pm saying you had the flu and it would be done by next weekend(and i said that was cool)


As far as your list goes: you did get the piping, weld my turbo to manifold,made me a down pipe( that was so off line with the rest of my exhaust that it was rubbing on my gas tank, and i had to pay a shop to fix the problem), installed my bov(you did put on a new one, but i removed the ---- for you), you installed the fmu (for a "temp fix") also you broke my ecu(when trying to chip it, after i said i would just take and get it done if you were uncomfortable with chipping the ecu), installed the boost gauge by putting a hole in my steering column( that i didnt say it was cool to do), you did use you brothers lines( also i still have a brand new oil line kit that ive been trying to give to you, to make up for your brother's), you did go to the junk yard for me(for a radiator, and you bought "me" an intercooler without asking if i wanted to buy it)

I did pay you $340 but i also did pay for all the piping and flanges ( remember i did pay for all the stuff when we went to home depot/partstore and i paid you back for the exhaust flanges that nite). As far as me wanting it done in a day that is untrue ( you said it would be done in a day, actually you said it would take about 6 hours......i didnt say that) and as far as you "spending" 3 days on the project....thats because you kept puttin stuff off( you just kept sayin "we will do the rest of it next time you come up"). I still have parts that i bought (because you said you would put them on) sitting in boxes (my oil gauge, my muffler) and i told you i would still pay you more money when you did that(plus my old muffler(---- i said you could have the muffler when you put the new one on, i even gave you the bov i bought from mike) We even had a few delays that nite like me following you in your car to get your parents when they broke down....and when we went to get somethin to eat( i even paid for you and your girl).

Even when i paid you i said ill pay you more.....it seemed like you were happy to get that much(you said it was more than you expected) but when you do a rundown on the price list please be a little more acurate and inform the people that i did infact pay you for the supplies.

As far as you thinking i "called you out" i think you misinterpreted what i was posting, i said nothing bad. i still say i like your welds(and most of the work) i tried to keep this a private matter(as best as i could with the lack of communication) so hopefully we can get this settled -----steve

Dude, you tried getting a hold of me to get ahold of ablert and i didnt want to get involved cause for one i didnt want to bug him knowing damm well he has a kid and he's trying to get a place for him and the "wife"

One of the other guys said this is homemadeturbo, so for you to expect it to come out perfect in the amount of time he had was kinda ridiculous. He did my exhaust and its not perfect but im not complaining cause all I paid was a ------- combo meal and a Pepsi ( Peksi)

Oh and from now no more installs without the rest of the HMT SO cal crew( for insurance reasons) cause this is what happens. Only thing is we are gonna have to charge more ;)

julio i think your missing the point im not complaining about the work(i know its hmt) the reason i posted that stuff was to defend myself( he mentioned stuff like : chipping my ecu like it was a favor, he didnt say anything about ruining my other ecu) but like you said ive been trying to get ahold of albert... he was on here today to post some inacurate price's but yet he hasnt try'd to reach me
