Why? probably because the z6 and y8 cylinder heads use 1mm larger valves than the b2/a6 head. I'm not saying a6 heads are bad, infact I prefer a a6/b2 non-vtec head over a z6/y8. Why? because cam regrinds for fixed profile cams are way cheaper to get done. I can get a 50 dollar grind on a a6 cam and wake it up more than a stock z6. The options for vtec sohc cams are expensive. You can do all the studying you want and playing around with compresson calculators. I have actually done tons of d-series combinatons throughout the years, and have way more hands on experience than you will ever fathem. And if you say stock a6 can pull on a stock b16, you are a complete idiot and I will ban you from my website for stupidity. Jeff i mean when yo swap an a6 head out of an a6 motor from 118hp, and put in z6 and end up with about 130 hp, yah thats true. but also swap out the a6 head back an pop in some z6 pistons and a z6 head gasket and you get around the same hp numbers if not 1 or 2 hp more. |

Re:Whats everybody favorite single cam honda engine?
The Z6 is only popular here because that is what most of you had when you got your 5th gen.
The OBD2 blocks have a much better oil dipstick location. Other than that, they're identical. WEll I think you can get an iron pan on one of them, and it has a KS, which is garbage. Now if you want to debate the Y8 head vs the Z6 head, that's fine. There are good arguments there. But the Z6 motor by itself, I don't see how it better than say a Y8. -PHiZ |
Re:Whats everybody favorite single cam honda engine?
the zc pistons lower the compresion. plus the bisimoto header kicks ass. zc pistons lower compression? Never heard that one correct me if im wrong but dont zc,p29 pistons usually raise compression due to the dome on the piston |
Re:Whats everybody favorite single cam honda engine?
bisi headers do kick ass, but I'm not sure how you cn use one w/ a turbo. BTW an A6 w/ z6 pistons will lose pwer over stock it puts you at appx 8.1:1 which is too low, even for a turbo setup. stick to wankels, wankel.

never said a stock a6 vs stock b16. an a6, with a6 head, and swap out some pistons, and get a gsr throttle body, and someother cam ( just get the zex cam ) and you will be owning a crx with a stock b16a1 in it. the zc pistons lower the compresion. get the bisimoto header, 500 bucks well worth it. Re:Whats everybody favorite single cam honda engine?
z6 block is much better than the y8 block, visit SOHChonda.com the y8 block has 35% smaller oil passages than the z6, thats why you always hear about people spinning bearings in their y8's

Re:Whats everybody favorite single cam honda engine?
^^^ word that is why I said z6 bottom end w/ y8 top end.
