Re:whats better
i almost got a new home system but changed my mind to wait to see whats available in japan. IMO, a decent car stereo with a sub or 2 and nice mids/highs is always a big plus to the car. Im not a big fan of alot of bass, but a little to add a kick is great.
I often find myself though listining to my house speakers more than my car ----. (my car ---- sucks ***, in my car)
my wife has 2 old skool boswick 10's in a band pass box, all pioneer 6.5's throughout the vehicle, not alot of bass, but it sounds great. only about 150watts to the subs. -thats all they need.

Re:whats better
not really into the stereo thing. i just have an alpine head unit in the car. nothing too special, as long as i can play cd's i'm happy. actually i was thinking of taking it out to make room for all the new electronics i have to put in. i think i will just leave it in though. as for home stereo, harmon kardon tuner. that is about it, nothing special there either. as long as i can watch dvd's i'm happy.

Re:whats better
i have just a aiwa home entertainment thing. like a shelf stereo but just way larger, has all that good stuff like dolby digital suround, S-cable in, comes with 5 speakers.... its not bad at all. and puts out over 400 watts of power. i usto have 2 12" sub's hooked up to it under my bed... ---- usto bang
but in all honesty i would rather watch i movie or play PS2 in my car. i have a Pioneer Premier CD player model DEH-P650 (full dot-matrix organic el display), 3 12inch pioneer subwoofers in a custom inclosed box model TS-W303C, Legacy 7.2inch widescreen LCD monitor, pioneer RCA to IP-BUS interconnector, crappy pyrimid 500 watt amp(but suprisingly works pretty well), all monster cable wire's, stock honda 6 1/2 all around(they have great high's), and i either use my PS2, or a dvd player to controll the movies/games.
theres nothing like watching Termintor 2, with the bass cranked and full suround sound i usto bake it out back in the day with some buddies then just chill and game it out. hahaha i was a large stoner back in the day :P
o and to answer your question hatrack48, you gotta have it where you are the most. i'm mostly in my car, so thats where all my money goes. but you gotta be a baller, both equally i guess
