what's the bestest place to live in the US?...for a Dutch dude

Allright here goes...
My girlfriend moved back to MO,mainly because of the language barrier here and she missed her family.
So i figured...why don't i move over there?
Well she's staying at her sister's place right now and once i'd get there we'd be looking for a place to settle.
It would be a rental house and somewhere where it's not expensive to live...and nice weather(better than the suckass Dutch weather) would be nice.
So...what do you guys suggest?
The reason i ask on here is because the HMT mob streches from tip to toe...allover the States.

6 feet underground would work.

No, but really, Florida is nice, I used to live in Charleston, South Carolina and I loved it there. Any of the mid-atlantic to southern states will do. Nice weather and you don't have to put up with all of the crap that California has to deal with. Plus over hereyou can get 94 octane. Woo-hooo!!

id have to say, anywhere from nj, on down to florida,

nc, sc, are beautiful weather wise, but its nothing but a big double wide trailor park.

he rode on a bust to some backwoods town in nc once for a baseball tourny a while back, and obviously they stuck on the rural roads b/c ever since then, he claims all the south is trailer parks ::)

Oh, we aint's gotsta lie, Craig. We aint's gotsta lie. There be plenty of trailer parks down south BUT nobody said you have to live in one or hangout at one. There are also a lot of really nice areas too, just like anywhere else. I live in PA now and for the most part I love it cause I grew up here but the winters suck and I'm a fan of warmer climates so later in life I will live down south.

false(sorta).. cheap relative to some parts of the northeast and california.. were in the middle of one of the biggest realestate booms ever.. with that said there are still deals out there.. like some parts of the west coast of florida and central florida, pretty much north of palm beach county.

LOTS of dutch ---- in Holland Michigan. its a all dutch town. that might keep your culture, but still in the states. plus michigan isnt a bad place to live either. good schools, taxes arent that bad...all that fun ----.

holland is kind of a tourist place in the summer though, depending on where you go in the town. none the less, a very nice place. cold in the winter/plus snow, warm, not hot in the summer (mid 80's is hot for there)

its just like your dutch place.

just my $.02

its pretty much identical to your dutch land.

sounds like you are lookin for a place to settle at. i would also consider other things besides how hot it is, and how many weekends you can go to the drag strip a year. :-\

SandmanCrx 03-16-2005 10:30 AM

Re: what's the bestest place to live in the US?...for a Dutch dude

true..very true.
Well the weather thing is mainly because of my very screwed up back, and that has a great influence.(2 surgeries..steel rods and a lot of blahblah)
And why cheap? well because i want a garage where i can do my thing in,and a yard for Terry to mess around in,she like gardening and stuff.
Why some place quiet..well i've been living in a busy town for 30 years now...10 of wich in the ghetto so i had enough of that ----.
So yeah a place to settle down.
And yeah..strips can be found allover the States

Dutch guy here residing in New Mexico. Weather is very nice, sunny, dry, not humid. Beautiful mountain scenery, and gas prices are below national averages. Since the average income of the population is below the national average, naturally the cost of living is excellent. I have family in the netherlands, as well as Suriname (where I'm originally from). When it snows here, anything more than two inches is chaos, lol. I'm used to the 2+ feet from New York.

Re: what's the bestest place to live in the US?...for a Dutch dude

I haven't been to everystate, but I've been to every region, and I guess it's all personal prefferance. There's people that would never live anywhere than New York, and I could give a ---- less if I ever see that place again. It's prefferance, but I think these would be the things that you would look for:

Weather
Population (Tons of people, or very few)
Quality of Life (good schools, bad schools, ect)
Income possibilities (make this your last choice because the other ones combined OWN this one)

After all the places I've been, my personal preferance makes me want to move to Colorado for a couple years. They don't have crazy winters, but you see snow, they have summer, they have alot of different scenery (mountains, flatland, cities and farms) I see it as the middle ground of everything you could want and not want. They don't have a beach, but they have lakes and ----.

Post up what kind of qualities you're looking for in the above catagories and I'm sure we can put the Dutch on the map. ;)

Living in New York city is different than living anywhere else in the US. NYC can be very intimidating for people not used to that atmosphere but can be heaven for someone who likes that environment

The cost of living is very high in NYC and the surrounding areas. You'd want to stay away from here.

Southwest looks tempting to me. New Mexico, Colorado and Utah looking appealing to me.

HMT-Admin 03-16-2005 05:12 PM

Re: what's the bestest place to live in the US?...for a Dutch dude

Well I'm pretty biased, but I have seen the majority of the western US from texas-montanta to the enter west, and by far I think Oregon/Wash or northern california is the best place to live.

We have decent winters, sometimes a little bit of snow sometimes a alot, but it never lasts long. The summers are not 100+ degrees and filled with smog, they are very mild and not overly humid like everywhere else. There are tons of trees and grass and they are always green, if you abousltly need snow you travel 1.5 hour east and your in the cascade mountains, skiing/snowboading whatever. If the summer isnt hot enough for you, you can travel over the mountains and enjoy a completely different climate, eastern wa/or are beautiful in the summer, well over 100+ filled with tons of lakes and beautiful rivers. We dont have massive hurricanes, earthquakes and over-populated cities either. I dont think I will ever leave the Northwest because I have yet to ever see a place better.

however...

::looks out the window::

its pouring down rain.. ;)
