well for starters i would say im living and doing what i want. we can't hide behind some curtain and pretend that we are safe. we all know that the us economy is failing and what can we do about it. from my prospective, i can really care less. they say the us is the best place to live. im not entirely sure i agree with it. look at the price of gas and groceries. they are inflating beyond what was originally foreseen and its taking its toll. i dunno though, all we can do is wait and see. with the current presidential election also occurring, many things could change, but who knows. we fight as one, lose as one, and die as one in a sense. who knows, maybe the us will rebel against itself :-\

i think, that thinkin about everything puts a heavy load on your mental state. i try not to think about to much and keep a clear mind. though im not sure as to why this is so. i find it funny though that i go to school for software applications and programming yet, my grades are not the best and i dont really do what i should, and i find myself giving a psychology lesson here?! sometimes i think im crazy :1 :1

spend. People can't stockpile cash otherwise the economy only hibernates more. Hence the stimulus plan which the government wants people to spend and everyone's like "oh i'll just save it", which will make the whole thing a failure. If people spend it to pay bills, buy new ----, whatever, then there may be a hope in hell, although it's probably too little too late. Plus the more they lower the interest rate, the less appealing investing in american goods and securities becomes, and the stability of the economy is making the dollar worthless. Hell the penny is worth more in copper than in currency. Best thing i can suggest is make sure you have a good job, and sell some drugs on the side :6

The economy will be just fine. It goes in cycles. There are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many rich people with waaaaaaaaaaay too much to lose if the economy takes that much of a ----. Do you think all the people with billions or even millions are going to sit back and sit on their money forever? Without all of us doing what we're doing, they wouldn't have what they have. They need the clock to tick just as much as we do. Just like anything, the economey has it's ups and downs. It will get better. It always does.....

From my experience, in this town, the only people who lost their jobs were lazy fucks who didn't deserve the job they had in the first place. :3 It's absolutely unbelievable how many lazy worthless fucks my company has hired and these piles of ---- show up to work late, don't do a god damn thing excpet smoke cigarettes, talk on the phone and sit around, take long breaks, leave early and STILL expect to get top pay and want everything handed to them. That's if they even show up to work. ---- YOU. You want good pay? You want to be treated good? Show up on time, bust your ass, and go home when the day is over. Anything less and you better not wonder why you're not making any money and why you're the first guy to get laid off. It's funny listening to these guys bitch about how they want more money and how they can't pay their bills, yet they're not willing to show up for work and earn their money. :3

true there boost. good thing ill be going on three years with the company im with now. seems like an eternity with them and i still dont get the best of pay but i make out pretty good as long as i have a decent amount of hours to work with. in at 10pm out at 630am. fun times. bust my ass every night and get no appreciation from the store director. its like the night crew doesnt exist............oh well. its a job!!

It will pay off in the long run. I'm going on 9 years with my company and if ---- hit the fan I'm 99.9% positive I'd be the last to get laid off. Not that I'm going to ---- off and take advantage of that, but it's nice to know your boss appreciates your hard work. :6

right on, look back to the great depression, people were killing eachother for jobs, and now people are so ------- lazy it doesn't even matter. I think a huge problem in this country is with our labor force, mainly because we went from being a manufacuring economy to a service overnight. Why do you think china is growing at a rate unlike the world has ever seen before? They ------- produce everything. It's a catch 22 if you think about it. You want to manufacture and export a shitload to stimulate your economy and bring money into your country, but at the same time you want your employees to do well, so it costs more, so now your product costs more, and now it's not as appealing to buy your product. Only problem is we lost our face with that idea and blue collar guys started doing way too well. But who can blame them? With the rise of the IT industry blue collar industries had to ante up (partly due to unions as well), otherwise everyone would want to get into service jobs. And where are we now? Well, those of you who have kids, ask them what they want to do for work. I can assure they're not going to answer "i want to work on a GM assembly line". Perhaps we grew too big too fast with the tech boom, and now we need to find a way out.

The other problem that goes hand in hand with my previous paragraph is large corporations. No i don't think they're the devil but they don't help. Wal mart (just an example) has homogonized commodities to the point where you can't imagine your life without it. What existed before walmart? Mom and pop stores. Anyone remember going to a stationary store to get supplies before staples and all this other bullshit? There are a lot of small businesses in this country, and they are a huge part of this as well, and when they get bullied around by large corporations, everyone suffers. Now i'm not advocating that the government should get more involved than it already has, because after all once you start ------- with the free market economy then you run into a shitload of problems. As for the answer? I'm not sure there is a simple one. For me, it was pick a career where i can't be easily downsized or outsourced. If any of you nogs are interested in the stuff, i highly recommend Thomas Freedman's book The Lexus and the Olive Tree Its about globalization, and it will knock you on your ass :6

It's sweet until you realize that China could already buy every square inch of America 3 times with what we owe them.

You might not understand this, but the reason for the inflation is because our government prints too much damn money. Then when the water looks rough, they print more money to send to people as a "stimulas".

China buys our T bills as an investment.
The fed prints more money (more inflation) and sends it to us
We buy goods made in china (everything is)
The taxpayers (us) must repay the T bills to the chinese plus interest

Yeah, I told some people the stimulus package was a stupid ------- idea and they told me "it'll help the economy." They don't realise that the gov't has to get the money their paying us from somewhere. Either taxes (which we pay)or by printing it.

i can't imagine our government would just print money on a whim like that because if they did, it'd put us on an economic scale with jamaica. Little countries like that try to get out of debt by printing money and get more fucked. I'm sure the govt. understands this and does so anyway, but hopefully not on a huge scale. I was under the impression that the money for the stimulus plan was coming from tax money thats already collected, a sort of government piggy bank if you will.

I'm sure it's from taxes too, but either way when there's a debt, giving away money doesn't help. I'm not complaining because I need the money, just sucks to see the value of the dollar continue to fall. Either way they print/spend more money than they should, when there isn't technically money to be spending.

Would be nice if for once the gov't did something to reverse the deficit instead of increasing it.

The sub prime market happened because the government thought it wasn't fair that only people with jobs had houses. They make money easily available, irresponsible people shaft themselves, and instead of letting the market correct the government decides to try to bail them out (all the talk of freezing rates, etc..) The government creates the problems, and then tries to become Captain save a hoe by spending more money (taxing more).

We've become so reliant on our dollar being what international investors want that we let all the manufacturing and actual production go to other countries. Now that our dollar is worthless and the investment will stop (let alone the money we already owe), we'll be left with no dollar, and no manufacturing. We'll become professional consumers, and we'll produce nothing. The government is completely happy with this. They just gave a contract to France to build OUR MILITARY equipment, over the U.S. company who was bidding the job. They're fucken clowns.

I lost my GOOD ($40K/yr) job 3.3 years ago, been doing ok since. Lost my house, sold my Trans Am along with other parts.

Yes, I've been living at home for two years, didn't plan on staying that long. But I've been helping mom alot around the house, dad had passed away 12 years ago.

I was in survival mode 2.5 years ago, what is coming will be nothing I can't handle. Right now there is 4-5 ---- $9 an hour jobs less than a mile away, walk to work if I had too.

I did my 20 years of hard labor in cold warehouses on concrete.

I could have knee surgery but the doc said the pain would be the same, I was best off quitting my job (summer 2004) so when I got canned, it was sorta a blessing.

Only bad thing is I've gained 40 pounds in three years from being a seditary old fart, i.e., sitting on my fat ass gatting fatter!

Tanking paper that is going down in value, which costs twice as much worthless paper to buy the chinese goods. Couple that with jobs leaving, and you have an over supply of workers fighting for half the jobs, which makes salaries go down.

Rising prices of goods, lowered salaries, not a good combo. Especially since government spending is out of control, and they will raise their prices (taxes) to sustain their spending, while we're all making less.
