What tools to buy?
 
Well its comming to that time a year again, Iv paid of my snap on bill and tax time is comming. My snap on guy gives me about $1500 on the truck personal credit at the end of the year to buy tools with. Im a mechanic and have most tools u can think of. Im looking for the tools that I might not of thought of that maybe I could use.
I have most hand tool
most air tools
Welder
looking for maybe specialty tooys

whats u guyz tinking?

SAE & metric?

Voltmeter, ---- if I know. I just use my dad's (and some of his dad's)

micrometer? tool box for the hell of it since its free? hah a guy i work with just got a medium sized snap on box and it was 1200, real nice.

Some cars have special tools just for that motor/chassis. Go for all of them?

thats what I mean, But I cant think of anything but it still has to be a tool taht I will get my use out of. Iv been thinking of a band saw to go with the welds and posible making some fun manifolds

Right angle attachments to air drill / electric drill, 1/2" and 3/8" drive. Life saver

big slide hammer if you don't already have one
hup cap hammer,I use this thing constantly, only tool guy that could get me one was matco and he had to speical order it( I love that tool) we only have SandK, matco, and cornwell guys that come to my work
cordless impact
digital trq. wrench screw twistin that bizznitch
ford fuel/oil filter socket for 6.0 diesals
Nice quick disconnect set
a gun( for the customers that keep looking over your shoulder)

Had my dad make me a tool out of 5/8" plate steel and high quality bolts courtesy of Square D to hold my crank pulley so I could change the timing belt.

I do 2 to 10 T belts a week, got needed tools for that

do ya work on alot of fords? cause if so a good tranny jack may be needed j/k but I can see what specialty tools people have I have'nt been there very long and i'm still working on my ford certs so I don't know all the specialty tools people have for specifically ford. I know the new 3valve engines require a special spark plug socket

its a tax write off, Im buying it from snap on because I an have the tools now and just pay like 50 a week and then pay it off with my tax return, last year I got like 3400

if you do a lot of diagnostics you might want to get a lot of stuff like that. Test leads, Maybe a graphing DSO, or other hand-held lab scope.

I have a scanner and also a short/open cercuit finder, Im not gonna spend g's on more of that ----

I just bought a 14.4 volt 3/8 blue point impact gun (279). The best hand tool in the world. Then I just bought a AL race jack, 300 bucks but hey you have to pay for nice ----. I have load and unload a jack into a 1 ton van 5-10 times a weekend.

I did'nt get a chance to really look around, i should have we were dead but forgot, but I looked at the cover of the rotunda catalog and theres a special tool for the 6.0l powerstroke clutch fan.

if you do alot of suspension, they have that stand that cranks down the spring, i think they are like 500-600 bucks, i dont know if snap on would have them tho.

Braided line you can do with a vise and a wrench. Unless you really like the crimp style but those are Huge money.

:y how much trq.? highest I've really seen is like 85ft lbs, theres a company in the rotunda catalog that sells a nice quick disconect set for like $25 and it has all anondized tools in it. I need to get a drill and a good drill bit set, but i'm guessing you already have those.

Man Ty, I've got to raid your tool box!!!

Can't wait for my new job, 3-4 months and the paid for tools kick in, too bad it's not on cars and on percision machinery!!!

Does Snap On make BandSaws and Tig welders? Been a while since I raided one of their trucks. More of a MAC man, Wife's Uncle used to be a Dealer before his Farm Accident.

at my shop I only have a snap on truck, thats it.
I was thinking of a band saw like yours so I could maybe make some manys but dont know if its wurth it to me.

i would say cnc table but i doubt snap makes them, me and my brother are puttin together a cnc table for my smiley plasma, should be cutting out turbo flanges in no time

yea i think we shoudl have a ontario meet, time to meet some of u people.
