looks like excess gasket material.. RTV to be more specific. .

Thats why your not suppose to slap a ---- load of RTV all over the oil pan gasket

only stuff on the pan gasket was grey.. i did use that color on the valve cover though, but it looks like a small ring of whatever it is. guess i should pull it out..

Well the engine looks clean inside, almost too clean, no gunked on oil, it was probably taken apart recently, when did you buy that engine/car?

The reason I am saying this is honda does not use red RTV, they use some white factory crap.

Well it is obviously not OE or from the oil. Have you taken it out yet? What is it made of? What does it feel like, stretchy, soft ect.

Looks just like orange RTV. Even it it was in the head the oil drains back to the pan from there.

its a z6 with 163k hard miles on it, i got it from some guy in a trade who seems to have neglected it, he was too lazy to even fix the hanging busted muffler, and kicked the ---- out of the front end when the hood wouldnt latch. it has great compression so who knows. its bout to get its ass molested with junkyard love.

ill pull whatever that is out when i wake up

crap i got in another trade thats going in

That is far and away not a clean engine, it's seen some bronzing from overheating and the girdle has some build up.

Oh, yeah, I agree with you there. Most strong running 160K motors look poopy.

That was smart.

Trying to keep the engine bay temps up for higher mpg?

Re: what is this (took oil pan off)

Im guessing the cardboard was to help reach operating temperature...

actually i didnt know my thermostat was messed up and my car just wasent heating up at all when it was like 1 degree last week, so i tried what i did with my old astro van to keep it warmer, not a good idea. buried the temp gauge needle had to pull over and pull it out.

You mean Honda-bond. Good stuff, I highly reccomend it over normal rtv. It's an anorobic rtv I believe. Just don't use it excessively on things you plan on removing any time soon :l

Man compared to some of the engines I have seen its clean, I know its not perfect but it dosnt have grime all over the inside like my B16 did when I first took it apart.
