What paint to use?

Well, to help with my overheating problem I think I'm gonna install a kick ass jdm yo hoodscoop. :P My buddies got a spare hood and I'm gonna order a hood scoop off egay. I'm gonna sand it down real good and primer it but what kind of paint should I use? Gonna paint it black. Also gonna paint my rims black too, what paint should I use?
Thanks

Re:What paint to use?

i would powdercoat rims
it would be cool if u had an old oven lying around

as for the hood scoop, regular cans would do

Re:What paint to use?

Powdercoating costs money and I'm cheap. My friend painted his hood with regular car paint from advanced auto and it was real rough and shitty lookin. He didn't sand it down though so that might be why. I guess I'll just do it and see what happens. I don't know much about bodywork but I'm gonna try it out anyways.

Anyone got some advice on painting the hood and wheels?
Do I need to primer or just sand it down and paint it?

Re:What paint to use?

well once you put ur hood scoop on and reinforce ur hood after you cut the hole use a couple coats of rustoleum primer and after it dries sand it smooth with a fine grit sand paper like 400 and spray it with a laquer paint and u should be good to go

Re:What paint to use?

I can't figure out what the hell is wrong with the overheating. It doesn't overheat unless I drive it hard for a while and then if I just take it easy it goes back to normal so to me it sounds like the cooling system just can't handle all the heat of the turbo. Mabye this will work, mabye it won't but it definitly won't hurt to get some nice cold air down on the turbo.

Re:What paint to use?

new water pump, raditator, thermostat and flush it out too and you should be set

Carnesd 06-24-2004 04:36 PM

Re:What paint to use?

already put a new thermo, new radiator, new cap. Don't think it's the pump cause it would overheat all the time if it wasn't pumping right?

I'll flush it out today, come to think of it, when I changed the headgasket, I'm sure I got some little pieces of gasket outside the cylinder walls where the coolant goes. Forgot to flush it out.

Re:What paint to use?

if its the orginal radiator change it out, cause my 89 accord one was really clogged with 120k on it so iam sure urs is too

Re:What paint to use?

do I just stick a water hose up in that piece to flush it out?

biggmike 06-24-2004 04:44 PM

Re:What paint to use?

go to part store they sell a flush kit that you splice into ur line after flushing that fill it up and buy the fluid flush and follow instruction then water flush it one more time then fill her back up. also someone on here said that purple ---- they sell in metal jug thing at part store is a good additive.

Re:What paint to use?

don't forget to bleed the cooling system though because hondas are sensitive to air in the system

biggmike 06-24-2004 05:10 PM

Re:What paint to use?

ive never had a problem on any of my hondas

Re:What paint to use?

why dont you do it the JDM way and put washers between the bracket and the hood. yes this works, yes its a JDM trick. if you want to see pictures, come on over, I will show you film pictures. they stack like 5-6 washers up between the hood and the hinge, and get longer bolts. it works, and you can see the heat pouring out....
