just wondering what people think makes a sleeper

id say a few things are no body kits
stock wheels
stock paint, faded rusty or flat is even better

it still has to look decent though i think of sleeper as only performance mods done and basically stock looks, maybe lowered some tint just a lil flash

Stock wheels maybe a little lower then stock and if you are boosted then a painted fmic if you have one.

sleeper is a stock looking car. stock wheels no drop nothing. pretty much how the car came from factory.

the car has to look stock to be a sleeper.

throwing in a baby seat or a bike rack is also a nice touch

but reverse sleepers (big wings, gay tail lights) or a car thats rusty to ----, ugly, bent or whatever, is gay.

see i think the new definition of a sleeper is those cars that have those flambouyant body kits...and aluminum spoilers..cuz we all expect them to be slow and automatic....... now days all those cars that look stock..and are like painted flat black or gunmetal , we know they r packing sum power..

I'd agree with that. Stock looking civic with 400 hp? Definite sleeper. ;)

in my eyes, a sleeper would be beat up. rust is good. so is mismatching paint or the lack there of. open exhaust, just leave a rusted muffler hanging by some wire or something so people would know why it's loud (broken exhaust effect). no visible gauges/tachs etc. 12" steelies or maybe some 15" american racing wheels if you want to get fancy. don't wash it. i've always wanted to do this with a 4th gen sedan.

this is a sleeper ;)

no suspension mods, 4 different tires, stock exhaust out the back (open DP) and you couldnt see any gauges unless you looked in the car

the SMIC that datalogged something like 110degrees or something like that. it was pretty decent. i cut out those 2 vents from the front -you can kinda see it in the first pic. the car was pretty loud, and kinda sounded like ----, but it was pretty quick. dam do i miss this car. the crazy art is, even with the JB welded block and over 200k's on it, its still boosting 10psi to this day. I just talked to the kid last week. ;)

somone else just posted "the stealthmode vehicle" or something like that, it was 100% as sleeper as it got. look for it. it should be a few pages back.

But is it quick? You have to be fast too. I've seen plenty of 14-15 second turbo hondas around.

If I see a flat black car, or gunmetal crap... that is what all the ricers do. 99% are not fast. They just jumped on the bandwagon.

and on the side note, I've never seen any car that was built to look like your classic "ricer" that is fast.

looks stock...thats a sleeper, if anythings done externally, its no longer a sleeper. if anythings done, it says, i've spent money on this car, which means, its not stock..meaning, its not a sleeper..get it?

flat black is cuz we can afford paint. i think mine is simple and looks like a girls car...intended. but yea it does its dut. i look for a car that isnt all that much in the scene like hondas....say a old skool tercel...mazda protege..cars like that ...even a saturn....i got owned by a saturn along time ago...look like no threat but man was it fast..

the 'stock' sleeper look is so 2004, rice is the new sleeper. what do you expect when you pull up to a riced out car with gauges all over the place, body kit, wing, neon's, etc? you laug your ass off and expect it to be a freaking auto. with a fart can right? now what about when you pull up next to a flat black hatch back with spray painted wheels, stock except for lowered? you think in the back of your head 'this nigga might have some ---- fo me'. now tell yourself, which of those two is a true sleeper ;)

Totally agree. People are always quick to laugh and race rice patties but if those patties have 300, 400, or 500hp. Laughing is soon ceased when the rice wins.

there's this one mexican at my school (rice, obviously) who tried to race me one day.. i was confused afterwords cuz i won, but not by much.. figured he must have D16 Vtec or an LS or somethin, only pulled away in 2nd gear @ about 50mph once i got into 6 grand (and up to 8.5 ;) )

Anything that looks totally stock. Like nothing changed at all. No corner lights. No stereo. No cut bumper ect. Hubcaps and stock ride height.

You're just a fast ricer, if you decide to put cheap chineese body panels and lights on your ride. Sure you might trick people, but you're just a guy with a fast clownshoe.

I've walked a late 90's mustang gt on the bottle when my galant was pretty stock. It wasn't even close, and he was sporting mis-matched body panels, and that whole gay theme. So I guess that kinda de-bunks some of your thoughts that a sleeper is the opposite of what it "used" to be. Can't get much nastier than a V8 on the bottle.

Anyways kids, like many of you have said. Leaving a car completley stock looking on the outside, and inside is what a sleeper is.

You can get in my galant and not even know it is turbocharged, etc...

It's a sleeper because you greatly doubt how fast it is.

I do prefer the stock sleeper look though. Bonus points if it looks the same with the hood popped and doors/trunk open.
